I need ONE reason why Apple changed Magsafe to Magsafe 2....
This is by far the WORST upgrade of apple. PLEASE change it

When is an upgrade a downgrade? When you go from MagSafe to MagSafe2

Not much to add here, but I want to contribute yet another 1-star review. I've only had this cable for ONE DAY and I'm mad at it enough to find a place to rant. Why couldn't Apple keep the previous MagSafe design with a thinner connector profile?? That old one NEVER fell off unexpectedly. In those rare times I did forget to unplug my laptop, the cable disconnected perfectly, as expected. This new cable falls off EVERY TIME I try to move my laptop with the cable connected.

    Doesn't last long

I'm quite careful with my laptop. Never had an issue like that with my Windows laptops or computers. My cord just decided to stop working entirely. So I went to a local store, plugged in their charger and it worked. So I paid $100 and got a new charger. It worked. I paid twice as much for this as I normally do a Windows laptop (~$1500) for this Macbook Air maxed out and within 2 years it already needs new parts. For the 15 years I've been using Dell, Toshiba, Gateway and many other brands with mixed reputations, I've never replaced a part. Now I buy a Macbook for twice the price and it needs a new charger in less than 2 years. You think you're paying extra for quality? Think again.

Terrible. Apple needs to fix this.

With a slight move of your laptop the power disconnects from the laptop. It may soon just disconnect by breathing on it. I cannot believe Apple allowed such terrible quality. Shame on you Apple. Do a recall.

Apple 45W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter for MacBook Air

THE WORST charger ever designed!!!! The first apple product I have truly hated ! No exaggeration...my MBA was sitting on the table and my daughter coughed from 10 ft away ...and YES ...the charger fell right off !!!! Possessed or bad design...? Apple, please show some integrity by apologizing and providing a solution. Please be honest about this design flaw. Your honesty will pay off in the long run. Return customers are worth gold. We are a dedicated Apple family...no less then 3 apple products per member. This charger changes my love for your laptops. I can't believe Apple made this charger...recall it and make thousands of MBA owners happy again...it will pay off in the end.

    Not very safe

I had this power adapter for 1.5 years and it's now damaged. The cable broke and it wouldn't charge anymore.

    Horrible product

If you have to carry your charger around in a backpack that will break your cord for sure. This is just a very very low quality product and I know multiple people who have a charger that broke. And it's ridiculously overpriced too. This is worthless, Apple!

    The worst

If I could give this product zero stars I would. On my third charger in the last year...they stop working for NO reason and are expensive and inconvenient to replace.

    Mine works fine

I am a little confused by the bad reviews. Mine doesn't fall out, works fine, and charges quickly. OK, I do find that the price is ridiculous, now that I'm ordering a second charger to keep at work, hence only 4 stars. But I have had no problems with the one that came with my laptop.

Stopped working for no apparent reason

Flimsy and poor quality. Stopped working after just over a year of use. There are no signs of wear and tear and we don't travel with the computer or charger. $79 for a replacement? What happens if it breaks again?

    Terrible

Detaches at the slightest touch, I miss being able to use the old one. I got a Macbook Air recently and was unable to use the charger from my Macbook Pro which is exceedingly disappointing as this one is awful.

    Poor Quality

My cord was worn out within a year of having it and can't replace it under warranty. It broke right after it ended. What's the point of having a quality computer with a poor quality charger. Sad.

Works perfectly - even with rMBP15

Bought this for work and travel as it is a lot smaller (fits nicely in Knomo bag) than the 85 W and I rarely need the discreet graphics of the 15" rMBP when not at home. Works flawlessly.

The heating issues described must be related to the input voltage as I have never experienced anything close to overheating on Danish 230 V. The MagSafe 2 plug fastens securely to the rMBP, too. Less so to the MBA13 - but have never had an issue worth mentioning (though I do have to pay a little attention to it when in bed/on the sofa).

    this charger is a joke

love my macbook air. absolutely hate this charger, not a 5 minute period goes by where this thing is not bumped out.
To make this more of a joke, if the charger cable is tripped over and it pulls in a horizontal direction back or forward, it will not come out and rip the laptop off the table, but if it is even gently pulled up or down, the charger simply falls out.
Apple had it right with the cylindrical magsafe chargers, and the 'old' style magsafe would easily fit in the dimensions of my macbook air so I just simply dont understand why they would design this awfulness

    Horrible material

Bought a mac no wonder it's the best thing in the world but the charger disappoints..I am not bothered that it clips apart by the slightest touch but by the need to shake it off every time in the port until a green light comes on which is ridiculous. On top of that the skin comes out slowly and the tip of the "Magsafe 2" came apart after an electric leak. I am replacing it and oh my it's more expensive than a regular tablet. Lasted just about a year and I have my windows chargers sitting here and they look new

    Ripped two times

I don't think I carried the adapter with me a lot. Since I discovered the cable skin was beginning to ripe apart for the first time, I immediately used an electric-protection black tape to enclose the ripped part. However, after I began to reuse my MBA due to the mid-2012 SSD recall, the ripped part also began to extend beyond enclosed part. I think Apple needs to replace the skin for the cable to a better material and recall these bad quality ones. Also, why is it so expensive just for the adapter alone?

    Cable too thin

The cable has ripped and the shielding is showing in less than 6 months on my Daughters MAC Book Air. I need to replace it but based on all the reviews I am reading I hope there is an alternative.

APPLE please get your act together and produce better cables.

Whoever is in charge of this department please listen to the reviews and fix this problem.

    Thank you

    What they said.....

Yup, just bought my new MBA 13", Mavericks and all the rest. The adapter is truly trash; as noted in what seem to be the majority of the reviews, the FIRST thing I noticed about this otherwise wonderful machine, was that the power adapter seems almost to detach itself!! from the computer.

Noting that many reviews are dated in 2012, I can vouch for the statement that now, in Jan. of 2014, the lousy adapter is still not really functional, often with the result that it's quietly detached itself, with the slightest movement, from the machine, and you are suddenly out of power, at worst when you're just going out the door! Grrrr. Please, Mac engineers, fix this dopey adapter, at least to the functionality of my old MBA which I bought, and have happily used, since 2011...

Cable broke in the middle of nowhere

I'm in Ushuaia about to take a two week trip to Antarctica. Before I leave, I'm trying to get as much work done as possible. My Macbook MagSafe 2 Power Adapter has just broken. I'm about 1000 miles away from the nearest Apple store in Buenos Aires. Thanks Apple! It's incredible that a company that prides itself on attention to detail can mess up so badly on the power adapter. I'll have to part with $100 to fix this problem when I reach Buenos Aires.
