Broke in less than a month!

I bought an extra power adapter for my air to use in a different location, and it's not working only a month later. I am totally disgusted. If there were anything else there I could use, I would. It's a disgrace that Apple won't stand behind this product. To make matters worse, the original adapter that cam with the Air is also kaput. I'm furious I have to spend $150 to replace products they ought to replace or repair for free. Shame on you, Apple!

    Already broke

I got one with my MacBook Air 6 months ago and it already broke. The fact that I have to purchase another one already is ridiculous.

    worst magsafe ever

the first one that came with MBA 2012 died after 3months (under good care)

the second one last until today.. i hardly bring my charger outside because 7hrs of battery power is enough for my daily computing needs. this has to be the worst magsafe ever build it stop functioning under normal usage. my warranty already expired last month.. thank you apple. now i got a reason to unnecessarily over spending my november salary on your stupid and inferior magsafe 2 charger

No idea with all the complaints

I would not say that the charger is perfect, but I think it works well enough. Mine never broke or frayed. Even my old mag safe 1 never had any problems besides it getting dirty at the transformer(my fault). The only grip i had with mag safe 2 is that i wish the connector was more "L" shaped and not like the 30 pin connector. I understand why they did it (the new macbook pro with retina display it too thin.) but i wish it was less protrusive.

All in all, Im quite happy with the plug as it is compact and easy to carry about.

    Magsafe 2

Dislike that a) this is going to break (design weaker than the "L") and that b) once again my power adaptors are not compatible, i.e. interchangeable

    Very disappointing!

Just like the other reviews. Magnet is not powerful enough. Needs an L connector as well -like the old one. Had a 2012 Macbook Air 13" and got an new 2013 I7 Macbook Air. All was great until I needed to actually put the laptop in my lap and charge it. This adaptor is completely useless in that regard. This is mostly how I use it in the evening...

    I'm very disappointed in Apple!!!

    Awful, Awful, Awful

Of all the terrible, flimsy, overpriced chargers required by Apple products, this one is the worst. We own iPhones 4 and 5 (with chargers that fray from normal use) and a MacBook Pro (wIth a charger that shorted out twice and had to be replaced).

But the charger for my MacBook Air is by far the worst, as it detaches with the slightest movement. If I use my laptop in a drafty room, if I hold it on my lap and wiggle a toe, if the computer is on a table and someone walks across the room - it detaches. The magnet seems strong, but it's shockingly too lightweight to actually charge the laptop consistently. Apple, can this truly not be improved? I hope it isn't a sign of things to come for Mac products: "Almost great. . . but not quite."

    HATE HATE

Low Quality. Costly. A waste of money.

Are you stupid Apple? My $10 DELL charger is sturdier, more durable and is still working while I change chargers for my Macbook Air.

Getting it replaced for the third time. HMPH. Paying money for this waste for the second time. Ugh I hate this.

    weak cable join

two of my kids adapter have now split at the cable joint near the power unit. we have 2 of the older versions and have lasted 3 years so far of used by my older kid, wife and myself with no sign of wear and tear and stress. this is simply bad quality.

Tiny but wire split way too soon with no reason

This was great until I had it for a few months. It gets kinks way too easily and is not splitting at a place not of particularly high stress. I'm quite cautious with this cord as I've had to pay to replace one in the past (and the cost is really lame).

I pay thousands for superior products, please start providing them again. We all know you have the margin.

Please fire the idiot who thought this was a good idea

How did Apple take something so well designed (the old 'L-shape' Magsafe connector), and replace it with something so dumb?

It is dumb in two ways:
    a) Loyal customers who regularly replace their laptops tend to have many old power adapters lying around. Changing the format of the connector now renders all that legacy kit useless. More junk for the 'Apple Redundancy Box', where they can make friends with the VGA adapters and firewire cables.

    b) I could live with the upgrade if it brought improvement. But this MagSafe2 is a retrograde step. It is falls out all the time and sticks out a long way (unlike the old one). And I cannot see what the improvement is supposed to be.

One can just assume that this daft change was brought in when the grown ups were not looking, and now Apple is just too arrogant to admit that it was a mistake. At the very least they should supply the convertor kit for free for new MBA buyers.

Worst charger I've ever used in my entire life

I don't know where to start with how much I hate this charger. Its to the point now, that I consider using my older macbook in order to avoid using this charger. Its absolutely useless. Not only does it CONSTANTLY fall out, with the slightest touch, but 40% of the time won't charge my battery at all. It just sits in there with no LED light on, and will randomly, at its own choosing, come back on and start charging my laptop. This is not a charger that should come with a $1200 computer, I love Apple for their quality products, but this is a complete JOKE.

    Annoying and Comes unplugged.

The new charger falls out all the time. I put my laptop on my bed, charger falls out. I accidently scrape the charger's wire, charger falls out. I place my laptop on my desk at a slight angle, charger falls out. You're getting the idea. It is very annoying when I put my laptop to charge, leave it and come to use it away from the house to discover it wasn't charging since the plug fell out. This is the one thing that is wrong with the new MacBook Air. Shame really.

    MBA's weakest link

I love the new MBA (MacBook Air) and I don't have an issue with the magnet on the power supply. The main problem is the power unit malfunctioning. After only 4 months the power unit just died, without warning. No light and no charge. I took it into the apple store, where it was tested and found to be faulty. I was then informed it would be further inspected by the technician and a 3-4 business day turn around. Meanwhile I can't use my MBA as it has no charge.
With my unit and reading everyone else's dead power unit story's is that these power units die early. If you purchase a new MBA you can expect to have to return the power unit within a year. Which also means your MBA will be out of action.
Considering the power units cost $100 theoretically you could be looking at spending $100 every year you have your MBA!!!!
Apple really need to look at these power units. It seems a lot of people have similar short life spans on these things.

Chargers should not wear out - Macbook Air 2012

I take good care of my stuff, but I do take my laptop in my bag with me almost everywhere I go due to my work. So the charger gets put in there as well. The charger stopped getting current and I realized it was due to twisted/frayed wiring near the brick. Tried fixing, but broke it further. Angry I have to spend ~$100 for a new one.

3 months in, had shell of charger heating to 133 F

One month in I noted my charger was very hot when charging my new MBA from 22%. battery.
Measured the outside temp of charger at 133F with a decent IR thermometer.
computer checked out at store and charger replaced under warrantee
Computer was charging properly and not overheating or with excess fan
New charger appears to not get anywhere near as warm, but will watch it

    ?!
Ths is not a good thing

making Applecare look like an even better bargain, which it shouldn't be.

I already broke two in a year

I've been using Apple Lap Top for last 2 decades and never had a problem with Power Adapters but this one breaks super easy and such a trouble when the MacAir can't recharge its battery. so bad.

    45 W Magsafe adaptor failed

Mine failed after 18 months, no apparent damage, it just stopped working after working intermittently for a month. Sad given the cost. Hope the replacement lasts longer.

    Wears easily

I've had my macbook air for a little over a year now and I am still using the charger that came with it, which based on other reviews seems to be longer than most. However where the wire connects to the square the rubber casing has began to rip and reveal the wires witch worries me significantly especially considering I hardly ever move the charger or put strain on it. The charger is mostly always in the same spot in my bedroom and I plug in my computer every night without any strain on the cord. Also where the charger connects to the computer the magnet in the charger seems to be losing strength as I have found it harder to keep the charger connected to the computer.
