Charger falls off... all the time...

Isn't the 2nd version of the MagSafe charger supposed to be better than the first?? I had the old charger as well because I used to own the older version of the MacBook Pro, that charger wasn't too bad. When I got my new laptop couple weeks ago, it came with the newer one. It FALLS OFF all the time, and it's always in my way. Apple should definitely recall these chargers and make a better one. So far, my computer is charging fine.

    Ok product.

There is nothing particularly marvellously good or bad about this product. My comment to all the other bad reviewers is that I have had no problems with it, if it's broken get it replaced! Why do you have to rate it badly, I do 2 get the odd cable getting yanked out when kids run around cables but that I assure you is much better than your MAC FLYING into the ground! They are very durable unlike these other long ones with long thin pins that break itself and the whole pc if it gets yanked ground wards. I do recommend this product but make sure u get the correct wattage. Best go talk to the apple guys.

    Pretty Good

Had this for a while now and have had no issues, occasionally have to clean out the port on the mac as dust and grit gets stuck but otherwise I've had no problems.

    Power adapters - short life!

These things are expensive and fail in less than one year. Apple needs to make a better charger!

Terrible, falls out all the time

The magnet strength is too weak on this product. It falls out ALL. THE. TIME. I was so annoyed I finally Googled to see if I'm the only one - clearly I'm not. If I could give this less than 1 star I would.

FYI for those commenting on the shape of the adapter sticking out too far, the original redesign from the T to the L was not for space but for safety. The "T" style adapter is going to cause the problem that the "L" adapter helped to solve - the adapter is designed to be disconnected sideways, but most people don't do that, which causes wear on the cable and eventually is a safety issue. The "L" adapter basically forced people to properly disconnect the cable sideways - making cable damage and safety issues much less likely.

    Must have made Changes

I just received my new Mac Book Air 13 inch yesterday, August 22, 2013. I decided I need to buy another charger to keep with me on the road. I started reading the reviews here and though, what the heck? It seems Apple may have heard the complaints and I have not seen a recent review so thought I would add one from a current stock item. While I do agree that I like the L shaped version that comes with my 3 year old Pro, there certainly is no shortage of "Magnetism" with the straight connector type that came with this Air. In fact, it takes some strength to get it disconnected. So either I was luck or they have fixed the issue of falling out anyway!

    Terrible!

I purchased my brand new MBA 2013 a week ago and I am already disappointed because of one little thing - Magsafe 2. It simply overheats and when it does it refuses to charge my Macbook until it gets colder. I am thinking about visiting a service centre just one week after the purchase :(

    AWFUL. Why???

Spilled water on my laptop and unexpectedly had to replace my macbook air with the newer macbook air. I could cry about this to begin with, but the worst is this HORRIBLE adaptor! It is useless on a lap - if your thighs touch it, it falls off. If you have it on anything but a flat surface, or move near it, it falls off. There is nearly no magnet strength. The previous L-shape adaptor had a stronger magnet and hugged the laptop. This thing sticks out and just begs for something to brush against it and knock it off. Honestly, I'm within the return period for the macbook air, and seriously considering returning it and going with a refurbished older model. I don't need the new model that badly to put up with a serious bad product like this adaptor.

Frayed in less than a year!

I am extremely careful with my laptop and all gadgets and did not expect an apple product to fall apart so soon. The cord is frayed near where it attaches to the adapter. I do not roll the cord around the adaptor precisely to avoid this from happening. I dont understand how apple can manufacture something so carelessly. This is a prime candidate for a product recall in the near future. Very unhappy that I have to shell another 80 bucks for this badly designed product. Shame on you, Apple!

After 1 year of use the cable is falling apart

I have been using my Air for 13 months, I work out of a computer bag and I am VERY careful of the cord NOT winding it around the adapter but just coiling the wire into a 75mm loop, than I place the adapter into the bag first and slip the loop in after it to NOT stress the cable. This means I took extreme care to delay this failure because I recognize it as the weakest part of the unit.
Today I see the outer insulation falling apart. Now I need to purchase a new Power Adapter.
One year is too short a time for this product to fail, not with the care I took with it.
If you abuse this unit I am sure its life will be very short.

    Awful design!!

I am so irritated by this bad design.
You cannot lie on your left side in bed (you could before the design change), and it falls out at the slightest touch or movement.
It's hard to believe something so badly designed came from Apple.
I tried to give it no stars but they won't let me!

Agree with all the other 1 or 2 star reviews -- falls out too easily.

    Terrible power adapter

this thing stinks. It falls out constantly. APPLE if it aint broke why try to fix it.

And now you have to buy all new power cords. I used to have a power cord in each of my offices in case I forgot to bring it from home. Today I didn't bring my new air's cord so as I type on my old macbook pro at work, the ai is totally dead right now.

And you could use the old power adapter on all your laptops, pros and airs.
Totally stinks how you cant now.

    Great Charger

Love it. I can change the head for a long or short cable. Magnet plugs in well. LED indicates status. Smartest charger around!

    Hate the adaptor

I adore my new MacBook Air but I HATE this new adaptor. It comes off at the slightest little movement. Apple, give us back a tighter one please!

The most terrible design I've ever seen!

I gave this a one only because some rating is required. If I could give it a negative 10 I would. I was so excited to get my new 2013 Air but I wasn't aware that Apple had redesigned the power cord. I am so seriously disappointed with this design, I wish my old one had more memory because I think I would return the 2013 Air just based on this.

Why would Apple take such a brilliant design and replace it with this eyesore that doesn't even stay in when you actually try to work with it on your lap! "Lap top"... Hello?

And the folks that are saying they love theirs DO NOT have the new design! I love the old design too!

Apple? Anyone out there listening? Apparently not since they didn't change it for the 2013 after so many complained after the 2012! This makes using the Air such a disappointment. Ugh!

No better than other Mac chargers

I have a MacBookPro and this is my second Macbook Air . The chargers just don't last more than a few months and they cost $79 plus tax to replace .What a rip off !

They also include the thick ,longer extension ,in the replacement ,even though it's the shorter ,narrow charger that has issues and needs to be replaced. Maybe if they sold it separately it wouldn't cost as much.

I've had to replace at least 5 Macbook chargers and multiple chargers for our iPads ,iPhones and iPods. Is it really that hard to come up with something that will last for awhile? My husband refuses to buy any more Apple products for just this reason.

The weakness seems to be in the first inch or two just off the magnetic connection to the computer .It tends to bend there and many of my chargers have split at that bend close to the computer . Not all the broken chargers showed a split. The wiring is weak .For awhile you can jiggle it around and get it to work ,but that doesn't last long.

Hard to argue with my husband when my Apple laptop charger has to be replaced every few months ,while his charger is the original he got with his laptop( not Apple) ,years ago.

We're seeing >50% loss on these cords

We have a number of Macbooks in our company. The newer Apple power adapters get frayed edges (dangerously - electrical wires stick out and at times you'll see sparks) in greater than 50% of the adapters we have. We've seen adapters damaged in less than 2 weeks.
