    short lived

6 months, 2 failed cables. I'm not alone apparently. I don't know what causes these cables to fail so quickly but at this rate my iphone 5 will cost me way more than I should have to spend on this most important accessory.

    Works Well So Far

I'm not sure why so many people are having problems with these cords. I picked up a second one to carry with me (leave the original at home) and have not had any issues with them whatsoever in the 1 year I've had them. I am fairly gentle with them, but I have not noticed any fraying or excessive wear after plugging and unplugging them several times a day.

I will agree that they are expensive, but so far they are holding up well.

    Doesn't even deserve 1*

So useless! Been through 3 cables since I got the phone in June, works fine for a few weeks then gradually stops working. Have to balance my phone in certain positions to get it to charge continuously. Happening to this wire now too. Hurry up and bring out a decent lead!!

    iPhone 5 Chargers dont work!

These chargers stop working after about a month or two! The end gets all scrunched up, and it will only charge after playing around with it to get the cord bent it the right position! I have bought 4 of these chargers with in the last 8 months, and each of them have done this!

    Shockingly bad connector

When my partner and I upgraded from the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5 I replaced my 5 doc connector cables with the new cables from Apple (one each in the bedroom, one in the living room, one at work and one connected to the PC). As 2 came with the phone I bought 3 from the store for a total of 5, I also purchased an adapter cable for compatibility with my existing docking stations. It was expensive, but helpful (if they worked as they should).

That was between 6 and 9 months ago (I can't remember exactly) and so far the 2 most used cables have stopped working completely and one more is intermittent. All the problems appears to originate around the lightening connector end that plugs into the phone. It seems to bend and break internally over a relatively short period of normal use.

I have not used these cables any more than would be deemed normal and have not been heavy handed with them. The last 2 fully working ones are showing signs of bending around the lightening end and I don't anticipate them lasting more than another 3 months. £75 worth of cables breaking in the first year? Not good Apple, not good at all!

    Terrible

The wire that shipped along with my iphone stopped working in about a month. My mum, my brother and my sister all own devices that use the lightening cable and none of the ones shipped along with the products survived more than a few months. And so far we've all replaced them twice, the last cable I bought (from apple) had the rubber part come off when I tried to unplug it from my phone (and I promise you I wasn't aggressive). It continued charging afterwards for about two days and then stopped.

Are we expected to keep replacing the wire every two months? Because I did not sign up for this when I spent all that money on my iphone.

HORRIBLE CORDS = IRRITATED LOYAL CUSTOMER!!!

My iphone 5 is less than a year old, I will have had it a year in Dec 2013. I have gone through TWO cords, getting my third tomorrow as my second one has stopped working because they pull apart at the very end and stop charging. Apple, FIX THIS!!! It's ridiculous!!

The USB cable is so annoying.

I'm on cable number 6 for 2013.Thats a little extreme. I know the USB cable can be damaged by bending the wire on harsh angles. But this is not the case here. I know my way around a cable I use them for a living. Whats the deal?

    No Problems

I own various Apple products and have purchased several of these cables. I've never had a problem with any of them. As long as you look after them properly they will last years, and if they don't, Apple will replace it. I would advise when you are connecting/disconnecting, do so by holding the actual connector rather than just tugging by the wire.

The worst apple product so far

This is my third USB cable in less than a year. Why apple management is ignoring its customers to fix this problem? Please look at all this negative reviews and try to fix this problem ASAP. Please please please......

Apple... spend your cash pile on improved testing!

This cable sums up the iPhone 5, well designed but poorly manufactured to a point it starts wearing with just light use.

The cable has warped and split on both mine, my girlfriends and a work colleges phone in exactly the same place after just 6 months. The wires have become exposed creating a safety hazard and connection problem.

Apple should stop blocking other manufactures from making a better quality cable - their name is starting to wear thin on me now!

    Shoddily made

I've never used a cable that malfunctioned this quickly. Just from plugging into my computer USB and picking up my phone occasionally when I receive a text, the lightening pin end became so twisted and fragile that it would no longer connect for a charge. I've had the old cords for a long time and ran them over with wheelie chairs, etc and even though they've freyed they don't just stop working. something is very wrong with the lightning pin connector end - way too fragile if it just breaks from normal usage!

    Complete waste of money!!!!!

My second cable to break since I got phone 10 months ago. It's obvious a wire is disconnecting inside the cable! I am horrified that such a huge company would allow such a shoddy and useless yet VITAL part of its product to remain on sale unfixed! Apple, there is clearly a problem here - sort it out!!!!!!!!!!!! I now have to pay ANOTHER £15 for a new cable, what a joke!!

Why do so many hate this cable? I think it is great !!!

I think that the lighting cable was long overdue. I have bought 4 of these cables myself since their release with the iPhone 5 and iPad 4. I keep one in the bedroom, one in the front room, one in my car and one in my work van. I have never had one fail on me yet. I think all the bad reviewers should take better care of their cables.

    Horrible

This design is faulty. Worst cable ever....i purchased 6 in 5 months, now my daughter just got her own ipad mini, i will have to order a few more just to keep up and keep my unit charge. Original and OEM both are the same.

    Shoddily made for any company.

Out of my three cables (two purchased, one that was included with the iphone 5), two have now started developing problems. One that sits on my desk and is hardly ever moved has started shorting out whenever I move it (and sometimes when I don't), interrupting syncs and stopping charging. Another that sits by my bed has started yellowing really badly and the more rigid part near the end has started coming apart. If I was purchasing these from some generic cable maker out of China, I'd kinda expect this, but this is ridiculous for an apple product with apple's markup.

    I HATE IT

I am a faithful Apple user. I LOVE the devices, and find them to be quite brilliant. However, this cable is absolutely rubbish! I HATE IT! Since Black Friday of 2012, I have gone through THREE. Yes, you read it correctly. THREE. Why couldn't Apple have made these cables as sturdy as the 30-Pin cords? I spent over $300 for my ipod, and this just isn't fair. I have to hold my cable in the most precise position for it to charge. What's next? Wrapping kitchen foil around my head, and standing on one foot while doing the Macarena? I don't think so! I'm very disappointed in this product, and I highly request that this is fixed ASAP!

    Official cable is poorly made...

Terrible manufacturing. My wife and I have owned and extensively used iPhones since the 3G. These lightning cables are junk. All of them fall apart. Start tearing near the ends and get so bad that it seems unsafe to use (not just for me, but unsafe for the iPhone).

    Anybody know of a knock-off that's better?
