    Lightning Cable Stinks

I LOVE my iPhone 5 but...seeing as how I can't use it if it's not charged, I am writing a review on the fact that the lightning cables STINK. I have had three in the past 2 months and all of them are broken with no wear to the wiring nor damage from "the elements" as apple likes to say. I'm really disappointed because while on vacation my power cord broke and my phone died and I had no way of charging it. I would have had a lot to say to Apple if something had gone wrong and my phone was utterly useless due to the fact that their stupid charger didn't work. I hope that apple appreciates their loyal customers enough to address this issue. How about we stop outsourcing to china?? I don't mind paying more money for a product that works so, instead of having china make it for a cheaper price, produce it in the U.S. and do it right.

    iphone5 charger wire

Apple seriously need to address this issue!!!! while charging my phone last nite I lay on my bed reading only to turn round to see smoke coming from the charger and an orange glow which made it hot to the touch!!! I have three small children in my house what if I hadn't noticed? or even fallen asleep the consequences to which do not even bare thinking of!!!!! whilst I am in general appreciation of the iphon5 itself having had them since there release I am disgusted at the poor quality the new style of wire has brought to the product.

    Best adapter in existence

I've used the Apple 30-pin adapter for many years. I've also used other USB formats (micro A, micro B) etc. The Lightning cable is far superior to any of those designs, for several reasons:
    * It is compact.
    * It is reversible.
    * If your Apple device is plugged in, you can lift the device by the cord, due to the way the lightning cable "snaps" into the device.
    * Because of the beveled angles of the charger, you don't have to plug the cable directly into the iPhone/iPad—you can start by plugging it in at an angle and it will straighten out as you push it in.

While it was unfortunate to have to replace all of my 30-pin adapters when Apple moved to Lightning, it was well worth it.

    Why is it so FRAGILE?

I bought my iPhone 5 last March, which is only about half a year ago, and this is already my THIRD cable! Apple, please improve the durability of this cable.

    Garbage

This new cable is absolutely terrible. Got my son an Iphone 5 when it came out, we've gone through 8 cables now, after going through 3 of the Apple ones, I figured I'd be just as well off buying generic ones for 1/3 of the price. Those break only slightly faster, and end up spending about the same amount of money. When it's time to upgrade, we'll be heading away from Apple's greed, they should have just gone with the standard micro usb that everybody else is using and kept things simple instead of this garbage.

No issues on 3 cables for a year.

I coil 1 up 2-3 times a day while putting it in and taking it out of my backpack and its holding up great.
I have another on my computer at work that stays on the desk, also holding up great.
I have a third next to my bed and thats also had no issues.
All three have been in daily use since last year.

This connector is extremely simple to use over the old one. I'm already taking it's simplicity for granted. Plugging in my headphones with a regular micro-USB connector feels like a hassle now.

Great connector. It's definitely a move forward.

    Seriously?

I got a brand new iphone 5 yesterday, and of course it came with this cable and it's own charger. I charged it once, last night, and then when I plugged it in today... broken. Get yourself together Apple.

    Awful!

Had my iPhone 5 for a while now and every night before bed when I try to get it to charge, it is a struggle to say the least. The charging cable only works when put in a specific position which, after an arduous struggle, is very temperamental; It buzzes all the time while charging. On many occasions I have almost bought a new cable, only being held back by the notion that the problem could be my phone. Reading other reviews posted here, it seems the cable is the issue. It also seems that buying a new cable would not solve the problem and I am now looking into investing into a NON-APPLE made dock. Maybe that would actually work!

    Wth Apple!!!

I like the speed of the new cable, BUT the fact that I'm about to purchase my third one in under a year is ridiculous. I still have the original usb cable which is for my iPad and it hasn't needed replacing once. I would personally like an apology and a replacement with quality. It's nerve racking know I have to buy something that will tear up in a matter of months.

    POS cable is already broke

What more to say. After about a month this cable just stops charging my iPhone 5 for no reason. No trauma or wear. If there were zero stars I would give it! What is Apple thinking? Unacceptable!

Absolutely terrible, I'm now on my 5th charger in 2 months. The plastic casing starts to crack meaining the phone is constantly vibrating as it goes off and on charge all night!!! Bought and brand new charger and tried to rap some tape to stop it from cracking didnt work at all.

    Terrible!

These cables are absolutely terrible, I have had to go back to an Apple store on three separate occasions to replace faulty cables. If these were third-party cables then I wouldn't be surprised but they are not, they are official Apple cables priced at £15 each, this is totally unacceptable to have such a poor quality cable priced at £15 to accompany "high-end" products such as the iPhone and iPad. I would suggest to anyone wanting to buy a Lighting cable to actually buy an official third-party Lightning cable, not an Apple Lighting cable.

    Cable stopped charging already

The cable that came with my son's iPhone 5 has already stopped charging his phone.

    This is a huge disappointment!

Thank you Apple for giving us such a low quality cable for our iPhone 5's!

Now we have to pay $20 for a replacement low quality cable or gamble with an aftermarket brand!

    - Unsatisfied Customer

p.s. This cable had no physical damage or trauma in appearance. And it was not exposed to outside elements.

    These cables are worthless

I have now gone through 3 cables since getting the phone in February. That's a little over 2 months of use for a cable. I don't mistreat my stuff or pull the cables out by the cable instead of the plug I don't twist them or tie them up.

I don't do stuff with the phone plugged in. The only movement is picking up and putting the phone down while plugging and unplugging. And these cables just start fraying on the lightning side.

    Not worth the £15

I was given an iPad mini for my Christmas in 2012 and the charger that was included was fine until mid-way through April. I had to bend the cable in certain directions to charge it and then it stopped working completely in July. I ordered another one and it came a week later but that charger only lasted 3 weeks. I then ordered another one which arrived a few days ago but it broke the same day that I got it. Extremely disappointed with these chargers :(

    Ditto- POS CHARGING CABLE

Please spend $700 on new iPad and buy 4 replacement charging cables inside of 1 month!
Where is product testing? Where is customer service? Where is quality control?

With the way I'm going thru charging cables.... I'll pay for a new iPad .

I have had multiple apple devices over the last few years and all the old charger cables still work.... Even frayed and bent.

Come on apple! Loyal consumers are built over years and lost in seconds.

Poor design, easy to fray and break

Needs redesigning as it easily breaks at the connector at the phone. The rubber wire casing breaks apart and soon stops working thereafter. Come on apple get it together. Too many similar complaints

    Worked for about a month.

Got my iPhone 5 at the end of June and my lead stopped working today. Both ends (the lightening end and the USB end) have become mis-shapen and all twisted? Phone only charges in certain positions and when I pick up my phone it stops charging.
Terrible product, going in the apple store soon to enquire about getting a replacement, guessing that I'll need more than one replacement!
