    cable wire/connector breaks easily

The design is terrible, from a hard plastic connector directly to a soft wire, makes no sense at all, obviously the cable will break there.

I've bought 2 apple calbes to replace the original and 3 after market cables that copy the design that also failed after a few months of use.

Very unhappy with the design. If its not broken don't fix it. The old design was fine!

    Horrible Quality

I have both the iPhone 5 and iPad mini, and the lightning cords for both no longer work. I have gone out to replace both and after 1 month usage only one of them semi work, I have to twist and play with it for a few minutes for it to connect. Sometimes when I come back to get my phone or iPad, I'll notice than even though I haven't touched it, it will disconnect itself and not charge. Apple really needs to fix this problem because I don't want to keep replacing these chargers when this is a problem that I've never had with previous apple cables.

    Won't charge

This came with my iPad mini and now it won't charge. It worked just fine since December, but now I'm sitting here with 12% battery hoping it doesn't die soon. It was doing this yesterday, but I unplugged and plugged it back in and it was fine. Now nothing I've tried has worked. It's pretty much brand new, the only visible defect is a little wrinkle where the wire part and the 8pin piece connect. This is disappointing...

    C'mon, Apple. I expect better.

my first iPhone5 lightening cable lasted a good three months, then the phone nub separated from the cord. "No worries," I thought. "Even Apple makes mistakes." The second cable (also Apple branded) separated after one month. The third separated after only FOUR DAYS, which is particularly ridiculous because, after two prior cables, I was extra careful to pull it out correctly. Four days? What the what?

    Do not buy this charger!

I have went through 3 of these chargers in 5 months! This is ridiculous! I have this charger for my iPod 5. For my iPod 2 and iPod 4, I have not had to replace any chargers even when the wires were twisted and sticking out of the cable. I did not have to even twist it a certain way for them to charge and they still work to this day. Even though they may look run down or broken, for some reason they still work perfectly fine! With this new lighting charger, the wire becomes bent or twisted without any reason at all. It barely looks bent and twisted at all and eventually stops working overall! These are not cheap and I've gone through 3 of them already even though my iPod 2 and 4 chargers work perfectly fine for those products and look like they are in worse shape than the lightning charger. I am very disappointed and this needs to be fixed immediately! Why have you ruined so many things that were fine the way they were Apple?

    twist & shred

Like many others my cord has also stopped working. For a while it had been twisting at the lightning end and now it has split in half, exposing the wiring inside. Apple really needs to fix this problem, I'm quite surprised at how cheaply this product seems to have been made. I have never had this problem with any of my other apple cords. Very disappointing!

    I love it!

To everyone who is complaining about not being able to buy additional cables go to walgreens and buy one if it bothers you that much. I love my cord its so more more efficient being reversible when I come home from work I dont have to fumble around trying to plug in my phone when im half asleep.

    Barely works!

I've had my iPhone for 6 months now, and this is the second cable I've been through! After 2 weeks of using my new cable it broke, and now my iPhone barely charges, I have to wiggle that wire around for ages looking for the right spot for it to charge. This is extremely annoying! I'm sick of wasting money on a stupid cable that only works for a few weeks!

    Awful build quality

I have the iPhone 5, and my wife has an iPad mini. Both came with one cable each, and we bought two more so we each have a spare. After the first one broke, I blamed user error and always took care to pull the connector, not the cord. The second still broke within a couple weeks, and now one of my wife's has broken as well. This is ridiculous, especially given the overly-inflated price of the cable. First time I've ever been so completely disappointed in an Apple product.

Poor quality - didn't survive 3 months of gentle use

I've been using this cable at home, i.e. never even coiling it up to take on the road, just leaving it on my desk. Yet, after plugging my phone in to the computer to charge overnight, I awoke to find portions of the cable looking burned, and the protective coating shredded and twisted just at the connection to the lightning end.

Very disappointed in the quality - will be going for a different brand to replace it.

    Best Quality

I am beginning to question whether or not some of these reviews are from people hired by other companies to leave negative reviews. The average for all reviews on apple.com for this cable is 2 out of 5. If you go on to walmart.com, the average is 5 out of 5 and the average is 4 out of 5 on amazon.com. Seems a little fishy... Anyway, apple makes very high quality cables. Still use my usb to 30 pin cable from my original ipod nano to charge my ipad 2. Never once had an issue with the 10+ chargers that I have had in the last 8 years. ALL OF THEM STILL WORK TODAY. As far as my usb to lighting cable that I ordered off of here, still no problems and I don't suspect there will me.

    Terrible

Within a WEEK my iPhone 5 stopped charging (a week is WAY to short for a $20 cable) so I went to my Apple Store. My iPad mini one went out as well, so I am stuck with 2 dead unchangeable devices. The guy said it was a software problem until I insisted he check my cable. Sure enough, he came back with a replacement cable straight from the shelf. I mentioned my iPad one didn't work either but he said since I only scheduled one about my iPhone, he could only replace one. A cable should last more than a week. Steve would be very angry at this stuff.

I cannot beleive Apple could endorse this peace of &*"/!

I have 5 ipods and an Ipad. Since the model went 8 pin, (mini) they come apart in less then a month. I mean, i connect my machines everyday and the inside wiring is so small and the tension needed to connect and disconnect the ipads is high, so within weeks, the contacts loosen up and it autodestructs itself. IT is obviously a design flaw.. a major one at that.. I will no longer buy any Ipods, i'm selling my ipad for tablette, and good ridance.. That's what you call a real flop that cable... nuls any benifit from having an Ipod or Ipad. APPLE, Get your stuff together.. your loosing clients that made you what you are today.!!!

    Terrible

In the past few months I bout two of these and they both broke in less than a month of purchasing them. And both broke in the exact same spot. The wire inside the cable severed it self right behind the lightning connector. I demand a refund and a new design for this product.

Apple needs to respond to this issue

On my 4th, yes, 4th cable in less than a year. With the number of consistent complaints posted here there needs to be refunds or replacements. Consumers are reporting a mechanical failure with this cord and all of us can not be abusing the equipment. A car that continually breaks down is recalled.

Part of Apple's past success has been based on extremely loyal customers. Apple needs to provide a response to this issue.
