    Tired of buying new chargers.

This is getting ridiculous. I thought it was just me and my kids until I came here and read all the other reviews, why has apple not done anything to improve the issue everyone is having with this charger? Maybe because they keep making money of their customers buying replacement? I have many Apple products including an iPhone 4s and iPod touch and the only product that has needed the charger replaced is the iPad mini. Many times, this is the 6th time it breaks. That's $120 just in chargers. I don't want tO buy another one for it to work for 3 or 4 months. Everyone at work also seemed to have their chargers almost broken and with tape all around it. They keep supposedly improving their product, why use an inferior charger and make no changes to it?

Such poor design and quality, we are being ripped off

In the past year I've bought 2 mini iPads for my kids an an iPhone 5 for myself and we're on our 10 lightening USB cable in our house. The quality of this product Is disgraceful and really goes against everything that I though Apple stood for. Why have Apple not addressed this defect and admitted that it's rubbish quality. There are cheaper and better products out there, I've always been an apple fan but I've spent in excess of €200 on charges in 12 months, it's a joke and apple ripping of their customers - I think this is justice instated were apple are now as a world leader in design, quality and innovation - No were. When is the last time we've seen a new and exciting apple product, the lightening charger was the only totally new design in years and look at what we the customers have to say about it. I wish apple would respond to all of us.

    Embarrassing

Compared to the quality level of the four ipads, four iphones and two apple TVs etc. we have, the quality of the charging cables and chargers is a joke. The lightning cable is the worst i.e. the 30 pin was better or less sensitive at charging. We have several devices with micro usb charging and never had an issue. I get it, with the new ios 7 we are pretty much forced to replace cables with OEM, which is fine if you wish to give an impression of "if you buy apple, make sure you keep the receipt". I bought apple to not having to keep the receipt. Think again!

    Piece of junk!

This cord is the worst charging cord I have ever had. I have had my phone for 1.5 years and my iPad for a year and I have gone through 5 cords. They do not hold up at all. The internal wires break near the lightning end of the cord. Not only is this thing not sturdy, it is WAY TOO SHORT. So frustrating that Apple could not come up with a more quality product.

    Horrible

I have already had to buy four cables already. That has totaled up to about 80 dollars and this one has just broken again. Seriously. I can't believe Apple has taken this long to fix such an awful product.

Something Must be Done About This!!!

The Lightning cable keeps breaking. It works for the first few weeks then one of the wires (I suspect) comes out and you end up having to move the wire around until you get it too charge And then it eventually breaks This is terrible. If Apple are going to make these bad-quality cables at least lower the price.

The worst product apple has ever made

Have had to buy 5 more cables because all my previous ones began to split and wouldnt work. Have one by my bed that doesn't move and that split and then would not charge my iPhone. Apple needs to redesign the cord to make sure that it is strong. Bought a third party cord and works perfectly, and much stronger, also cheaper! Do not buy an apple cord!

    Good and bad

Somehow, I think some have been designed correctly and some haven't. What I mean is when I got the fist four (one was bought from the apple store) , they all broke until I got the fifth one My god it seemed like multiple time stronger and it's lasting like five times longer than the other. This one was bought just before mid 2013 until now and it might look damaged (like most bought cables) but my divides
charge fine. These all were lightning connecters and so thats how I think some are designed correctly and others incorrectly, but I think most are incorrect because most of my cables broke but now I know some people are having the same problem as me, so I think it could be better by making a thicker wire.

    Works then...Doesn't

I got the iPhone 5c for Christmas, The original cable worked perfectly until the bit of wire towards the lightning adapter starts to crimple, eventually it just doesn't work after more weeks off the cable working and not working constantly vibrating when trying to sleep, it vibrates constantly! I then bought a new offical cable and yet it worked perfect and the same problem occurred, I am sick of paying £15 each time the cable fails to get it replaced!

    Never Again A Customer

The most positive thing I can say about this is thank goodness the people who engineered these cords do not engineer cardiac pacemakers.
I cannot believe Apple's complete disregard for this inconvenience. If I had to choose between an Apple product in the future that cost 1 cent, and another product that costs 1 million dollars I will pay one million dollars for the other product because it is NOT and Apple product. If Apple does not care about me, I won't care about them.

I went to Verizon. Paid double. With a huge smile on my face knowing Apple would not see another penny from me. The cable I got is a thick, sturdy well engineered cable the manager told me there have been no problems with.

I recommend to others to do the same. You'll pay more, but you'll be giving your money to people who actually care about your business.

    Zapped by Lightning Cables

I love Apple, have at least one of most products and have never written a review — but the lightning cables are honestly terrible. I have 3 iPad minis for 3 children ages 10-16, and in the past year I have easily purchased at least 10 replacement lightning cables... originally starting with Apple brand, then trying other brands, different lengths and most recently applying wire tape to each end of the cables going into the lightning and usb connectors - before ever being used - with hope that it might help to prevent damage to the internal wiring. I've even made quadruple certain that each child knows how to gently connect/disconnect the cables and have used different color cables to determine if one child is more rough than another, but this theory proved false. Ultimately, it comes down to a cable that needs to be constructed to match the quality of the product and guaranteed/easily replaced, if needed. The price of replacing the cables is ruining an otherwise incredible experience with your products.

    Please redesign!

I have several of these cables, and have had to replace them due to them wearing out even under normal use. I have one plugged in next to my bed that I use only when I charge my phone at night. It never moves. Yet the casing split and frayed, and the cable began shorting out and ultimately wouldn't charge anymore. I have the same issue with a cable that I leave at work. A phone plugged into the cable and left alone will constantly go from charging to not charging, with the characteristic vibration that acknowledges that the phone has been plugged in happening over and over as the cable loses and reestablishes connection. Not what should be expected from a $20 cable.

    Terrible. 0 STARS.

Considering Apple make millions from us buying their nice shiny kit you'd think they could make a cable that lasts longer than a month at best. I am currently on my 9th Lightning cable... Buy an aftermarket one (Belkin etc.) and save yourself the trouble of having to replace it every few weeks. Very disappointed considering the phone costs in excess of £500. Never had this issue with my Galaxy S2/S3 cables.

I am sick of buying these only to have them fail

For such a quality piece of hardware the cable is so poorly made. I am sick of them not charging and apple refusing to replace the cables. I am sick of having to rush into a store to buy a genuine cable only to have it fail within months or weeks. So far over 1000 reviews just like this on here why won't apple acknowledge the poor design of these cables.

  • 1.0 out of 5 stars

    Bad quality

I wish I could rate this below 1 star, unfortunately there is no such option.
Under normal use, these cables should last a lot longer than 2 months. Unless you are chewing, biting or bending it at right angles, there is no other "right way" of using it.
This is not the first lighting cable that we've had issues with. Is this by design or just poor manufacturing by Apple?
Either way, the "quality" I attached to the Apple brand has been tarnished.

Super expensive article, super cheap quality...

POOR QUALITY MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION ON THE CABLE, VERY WELL FINISHED ON THE ENDS.

ALL THE LIGHTNING CABLES ARE SUPER-EXTRA EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT THEY ARE BUT I WOULDN'T MIND TO PAY THE STABLISHED PRICE OF THEM IF THEY WERE BETTER QUALITY MADE. THEY HAVE THE WORST CONSTRUCTION AND MATERIALS AND THAY DON'T LAST EVENA YEAR DESPITE YOU TAKE SUPER CARE OF THEM.

    VERY DISAPPOINTED...
