    $30+ tax wasted

You would think that the braintrust in Cupertino could have figured this one out: If you have a case on your iPhone, you can't use the adapter since the opening in the case is too narrow and the adapter too wide. This could have so easily been resolved by making the lightning tab longer, but that wouldnt look neat & tidy if you're not using a case; or the adapter could have been wedge-shaped so that the Lightining end was no larger than the end on the charging cord, but that would be counter to Apple's rectilinear-losenge asthetic. But cooler heads prevailed: It's Form over Function and the hapless consumer gets stuck w/ a useless $30 widget.

    Doesn't Fly

So, I purchased this adapter with a Flybridge support that was also endorsed by Apple to transfer my iHome docks to Lightning. First, you have to plug it in several times, before it will actually start charging. No matter what, I received a warning that the "cable/accessory in not licensed". Needless to say, I found this kinda amusing. Second, I have to remove the back/bottom of my case (IvySkin Quattro), so that the adapter can even make it to the port. Not that this is entirly the adapter's fault, but come on who doesn't have their phone in a case?! Third (and not least), it will not play audio! The description for this adapter says audio supported, but that's not the truth. Don't do it!

    Lightning extension too short!

I have a 5S iPhone with Apple leather case and iPad Air with Apple leather case. This adapter is too short to connect on both with Apple case installed. Redesign needed to make the lighning extension longer!

    Big disappointment

Wanted an adapter to work with my current speaker/charger system. Product description failed to mention that it would not work with a case on, (even an apple case). A little design change could rectify this problem.

doesn't work with smart case on iPad Air

bought this at the same time as iPad Air and a smart case at Apple store in Birmingham.

However case doesn't fit the width of the adaptor as its as wide as the 30 pin, and the depth of the lightning end is not long enough to reach beyond case.

I will be seeking a refund as its not fit for purpose with what I bought, especially as I bought then all together.

Doesn't work with Apple's Own 5s Leather Case

Just piling on to the other complaints. The adapter was prominently advertised in conjunction with the case even though they clearly don't work together.

    Would be great, but...

I had one of these in my travel bag to charge my older iPad and my iPhone 5--at the time carried without a case--without having to carry two cables. I bought the otherwise perfect Apple leather case for my phone and it will not accommodate the adapter. I don't understand why Apple did not design the case with the adapter in mind, or the adapter with the case in mind. Along with the charging stand--which also does not work with a case--it seems as though Apple's designers aren't coordinating with each other.

Not Compatible with OEM Apple iPhone 5S Dock

I love Apple products, I own tons of them; their accessories, not so much. This is a prime example of an overpriced, less than capable accessory with flaws. First off, as many reviews have said, it is not compatible with nearly any case; certainly none of the cases I have. The thing that really sealed the 2-star review from me though is the fact that it does not work with the official OEM Apple iPhone 5S dock. I bought the dock for use in my bedroom but of course it doesn't come with a cable. No problem I thought, I'll just buy the lightning adaptor and use my old 30-pin iPhone cable. Nope. When I use this setup I get a "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone." message. Umm, every component I'm using is certified and manufactured by Apple, how could it not work?

    Does not work with case!

While the adaptor itself works fine, it does not fit with most cases because the lightning connection comes directly out of the plastic as opposed to coming from a cable (most case opening do not accommodate this). Apple should really specify that it does not work with most cases, or fix it so that it will. Sadly, returning this for the one with the cable; I had been looking forward to how compact it would be. Oh well.

    Doesn't work with Apple's own 5S case

I bought 2 of these adapters and they don't work with the leather case. The charger opening on the case is just wide enough for the lightening cable that comes with the phone. The adapter is too wide and the lightening charger is too short and won't connect w/the phone to charge it. So you can't charge your phone unless you take the case off. Kind of silly to design a case that fits like a glove that you have to take off every time you want to charge it. And being that the leather case fits like a glove it takes forever to take it off so that you can charge the phone. I returned the adapter and will try some other option. Who wants to keep taking the case on and off the charge it.

    bad design

this pin adapter does not work with an apple case for the 5s but they are prominently displayed in the store right next to each other as 5s accessories. What a goof move. And the associate in the store didn't say a thing while we were purchasing case and adapter at the same time. I start back charging for my time wasted.

    Didn't Work

I ordered both the Ligntning adapter and the cord adapter to connect my 7th generation iPod Nano to my Bose Sound Dock. Neither is working. There is not a peep of sound coming from the Sound Dock. My old Nano works, so I know it's not the Sound Dock. I bought a second iPod specifically so I could have one in the house and one in the car. The new one has more space capacity, so I wanted it in the house. Since this doesn't work, I've essentially wasted $150. Thanks Apple. Do you really have to change the connection? Geeze!

Using a case? Then get the (cheaper) Lightning-USB cable instead

First of all, in Australia it is $30 for this adaptor. Meanwhile, a cable costs $25. Given that this thing does not work when your phone is in a case, then better to spend *less* and get something that will work in all cases.

And for the adaptor to cost more than the cable?? Apple clearly priced this product to fail. Nice try Apple, but some of us will probably just wait for cheaper 3rd-party alternatives.

    Exactly What I Needed

Purchased this adapter to connect to my iPhone 5s to my car stereo system. Have a hard wired 30 pin cable in my car that connects to audio system. This adapter is exactly what I needed to play music. I can control my iPhone 5s music using the steering wheel or the audio units controls. The other reviews were correct in that the case interferes with the connection, which was the same with my iPhone 4s. Would highly recommend the Apple adapter.

Apple you missed the boat on this one !

I wish i would have read the reviews. Apple - please make this work with your 5S case you state is the perfect case - not so if I cannot use the adapter in my car. I need this piece to have my phone connect to my car. I am going to be forced to come up with a new solution. How hard is it to make the adapter work with a case - Please reconfigure this one - DO NOT BUY IF YOU WANT TO HAVE YOUR PHONE IN A CASE

Knees help with making it work

A couple of weeks ago, this adapter stopped playing music on my I home. When I twist it, it works but when I let go it doesn't. Need help. If Apple hears this, I would like to have a free replacement.

    Won't work with 5S case

Unfortunately, this won't work if you have any kind of case on your phone, *including those made by Apple*. Get the 2m Lightning-USB cable instead.

    Carelessly designed

If you use a case for your iPhone (for example the new iPhone 5/5s leather cases) using this product will require you to remove your case. A small but meaningful inconvenience that adds insult to injury when you've just parted with £25 for such a simple peripheral.

Great Product Unfair reviews regarding cases..

I have this adapter and works perfectly. Obv not with a case but then A) No one said it would work with a case on
    &

    B) Its not feasible to create and adapter to work with 1000's of third party cases.

Also the 0.2M one is available which will fit if your charger fits through your case.

    What were they thinking?

Frustrating because it cannot charge a device that has a protective case around it. Who does not have a protective case these days?
