Worked great with a 2009 Dodge Journey factory Ipod connection

Had doubts if my Dodge factory radio unit would connect audio from it's 30 pin iPod connector to my iPad mini. This lighting adapter in addition with a Scosche passport charging adaptor is compatable with the factory radio unit controls. The iPad battery gets charged along with great sounding audio! Couldn't be happier! Hope this review helps Dodge/Chrysler owners out there.

A little pricey but works well

I have a Bose series 2 sound dock with the 30 pin connector. I have the newest generation iPad (4th) with Siri. These new ones have lightning connector. I bought the adapter and connected to my iPad to the Bose. The music played and charged well. Be careful what brand of sound docks purchased. Some may not support charging the battery like my In Motion sound dock.

    Mostly happy with it

I bought this at an Apple store, and was shocked at the high price ($45). However, I had got a really cool new dock for Christmas that I really wanted to use that only had a 30-pin connector, so I got it.

I'm very happy with it, and glad I bought it! It syncs with my dock perfectly AND supports charging. However, the cord is very short, and it's hard to rest it on the stand with out the tension in the cord wanting to flip it off. Once I found a good position though, it was fine. I'm looking forward to using it in my car!

    Apple FAIL

I bought this because I got the ipod 5th gen for christmas but I have an expensive and high quality clock radio that I love and still want to use from LAST christmas.

This cord works for charging when plugged into the old 30pin-to-USB cord and to my computer.

This cord DOES NOT work for much else, especially not my clock radio. It doesn't even acknowledge that it's plugged in!!

I wish I could take the whole ipod back I am so angry. I will at least take the cord to the store and DEMAND my $40 back. NO WAY, Apple. Absolutely no way.

You morons changed the plug so you morons need to create an adapter that works.

I like apple products but this is an insult.

USB lightning cable $25 Lightning to 30 pin $45 what is the justification for the price difference apart from money grabbing?

  • 1.0 out of 5 stars

The length of cable is too short; it needs to be at least 12 inches. I have a small clock radio designed for the 30-pin connector; though it is low, the iPhone 5 will not lie on surface without tension on cord.

The Lightning connector itself is too fragile to support upright mobile devices without breaking easily. Apple should have thought this change through more thoroughly.

It's too expensive for what you get. I could get a new clock radio designed for iPhone 5 for about what I paid for this cable.

    Does not charge iPad

Disappointed that it only performs half of its required function--I can use it to play music on speaker devices, but it does not charge. I consider this a major defect in this product, which, as many have noted, was not cheap.

DOES NOT WORK in my 2013 BENTLEY

The lightning to 30-pin adapter with the cord does NOT work in my 2013 Bentley Continental GT. Sound is very Very BAD and distorted.
I'm going to try an adapter only. I think because of thisextendedd cable this is happening.
Someone posted a review on the adapter site that it works great but it did not with the cord adapter.

    Overpriced but necessary.

In a desperate moment where I couldn't find my charger and was at 10% battery I drove to the apple store and bought this. Just to confirm this adapter DOES work with my 2012 Nissan Versa iPod integration perfectly (steering wheel controls, in dash display, etc). It's good quality but $40 is awfully steep for something you're basically forced to purchase because you supported the company by buying their latest device, but what can you do?

Will not fit if you have a bumper

I bought this because I use a bumper for my iphone 5 and don't want to take off the bumper every time I charge, however the 8pin head is thicker than the one on the standard iphone 5 cable and it doesn't fit through the bumper, this completely defeats my purpose, so beware, if you use a case or a bumper with a small hole for the charger this thing won't fit. Apple should have thought about people using bumpers or cases, this cable is way too expensive for what it's worth and it should have been given to us as part of other iphone 5 package.

    lack of charge capability

Hoped to get full function connectivity to existing Pure I pod dock.Everything works except charge-- Apple say that no current dock will provide that facility. I think maybe there is a problem with charge through lightning as our existing usb charge point smply distorts touch screen when connected- the device can only be charged via adapter provided not through this lead.

It works but unnecessary payment to do what a iphone3 did

The cable works with all my docks, and you can still control the phone from the dock also (play, pause, next, previous etc)! I appreciate its a clever bit of kit and not just a lead, but just seems unnecessarily expensive to get back to doing what past iPhones did! A necessary expense but does the job well!

    iphone adapter for Audi A5

I have an Audi a5 without Navigation. I used a Ipod/Iphone cable with the "Blue" Grommet. This new adapter allows my IPhone to connect seamlessly, with the added benefit that I can now stream Pandora and the AUDI MMI system recognizes the songs. With previous IPhones the audio system would time out while streaming Pandora and revert to music on my iphone.

This cable is pricey at $39.00 but I wasn't willing to take a chance on a cable from a third party manufacturer. Also, the extra 8 inches on the cable makes maneuvering the phone much easier.

    Doesn't work with most devices

The description is correct in that you can plug in 30 pin cables to lighting. If you want the device supported, that's another story. The most obvious need, VGA out, is one of those unsupported use cases.

    Rip Off

This is a total rip off. $40 for a 20cm length of cable is a joke but as they've changed the charger this is a necessity if I want to use the various docking devices I have.

Does it work, yes. Although that's hardly a surprise being as it’s a simple cable.

I know apple is a private corporation with the sole aim of making money for its shareholders and I’m fine with that. However they should be selling these adaptors much closer to cost price given the reason people need to buy them. Charging $40 is just taking advantage of customers and provides a disappointing insight into the mindset of the current management.

    Absolute Rip off

Why change when it's not broken , if this is not a con i don't know what is, the old 30 pin connection was multi functional , terribly overpriced , are they going to change it again next year ???

    Outrageous price

This cable works fine... lets me use all of my old iOS devices with my iPhone 5. The absolutely ridiculous part of this is that Apple wants $40 for a cable, A CABLE, that will let me use my new iPhone with the hundreds of dollars of other Apple products I've already invested in. So... now I have to spend more. Not a great way for Apple to say thanks for investing in Apple products.
