    Compact, light, works well

This came with my iPad 4th Generation and it works just as expected. It's the same size as the previous 10W adapter but charges more quickly. I can tell you that this does charge the iPhone much faster than the 5W adapter that the iPhone comes with.

What else is there to say? It works and looks great.

Very compact design, does what it should do, but the cable could be longer.

The body of the charger is compact enough to fit into the outlet without hogging up the space that is needed for other neighboring plugs to fit properly in their place. The prong that connects to the lightning port of the iPad is symmetrical, making the user not have to ascertain which way it connects. Another minor pro would be that the color of the cord is white; allowing it to be very easy to see if when the cord slips accidentally behind or below furniture in a dark place that is surrounded with other dark cords. However the length of the cable is a little less than what I need when I am charging it and using my ipad at my desk. With all of this mind, it quite simply gets the job done.

Quick charger than standard 5W charger

I honestly don't understand why people slate this charger for being bulky. Or even ugly???
What's more important? the look of your iPhone/iPad or the charger? Obviously it the iPhone/iPad.

Yes it's a tiny bit bigger than the standard 5W iPhone charger. But the charge time is seriously reduced.
Why do you think Apple issued this charger in the first place when purchased with a iPad?

Answer: from 0% to 100% charges in about 2-3hrs with 12W charger, with the 5W charger 4-5hrs maybe more.

With iPhone 4S this charger can charge my phone 0% to 100% in around 1hr.

Excellent item - not before time

I am glad they have finally released a standalone ipad charger without the stupid cable. I like to have a spare or two around in different rooms.

This being 12w version is a Bonus, it charges my ipad 3 a lot quicker than with the 10w version

    An apple design classic

Couldn't be more opposed to those saying it looks ugly. Next to my MagSafe charger it just looks right. Well made and of quality materials too. In comparison the new triangle chargers you get with the iPhone and iPad mini, just look like generic other manufacturer copies. Severe lack of imagination there Apple!

Also these work with the world travel charger adapters due to the interchangeable plugs.

My charger actually melted and was close to catching fire. Talk about too hot to touch. I am happy about 2 things. First my house didn't catch fire, I have gfc breakers allover. And I am lucky my IPAD did not cook. Just shocked at the quality of these products. It amazes me that their peripherals are so lame given the quality of their main products. And sadly, we are a captive audience as far as these products go since the products only work when used with mostly genuine Apple products. Very sad.

    Why the short cord?

The charger works great, it charged my iPad and iPhone super fast but I cannot understand why on earth the cord is so short. With such great products it just seems ridiculous to go cheap on something this basic. At the very least apple should have a longer cord as an accessory option.

    Everything about it rocks

First of all, I bought this for my old 3GS I had to give life to. I was tired of charging it near my computer and needed a new source. This charger is made for the retina iPads and new iPhones/iPods that it requires it to push a little harder. So what does it do on old devices? It works a lot better than the 5W or 10W chargers... instant plus.

Second the size is great. It fits in the palm of my hand, and even though it is a little bigger than the 5W, does it really matter, the ac prongs can be tilted in a 90 degree angle, unlike the 5w charger.

And lastly, they both cost the same, and this one gives your device almost twice the speed of charging than the 5W, do yourself a favor and choose this one over all the other ones because it works with all of the iDevices Apple has ever made.*

    Charger Almost Caught Fire

Last night, 1/31/15 my charger for my IPad 2 almost caught fire. I caught it just in time. It was so hot it burned me when I unplugged it. I'm glad I stayed up a little later than normal it definitely would have caught fire, and perhaps burnt my house down!
Incidentally, when you look at the charger, there's no company name on it, in other words no place to report the problem. All it says is "designed in California, made in China". Good way to keep from getting sued I guess.
I do believe I'm going to report it to UL in the U.S.!

    charger worked well then quit

I've now had 2 12w chargers for my iPad mini. The first one quit working, and I don't know why, after about 6 months. I did notice that it was always hot to the touch when I used it. I then bought another one, which sparked as I plugged it into the wall, even the first time, so that one was also recycled. Rats. My iPad mini will charge on the little one given when I bought it, but it does take a long time. I agree with others in that Apple definitely needs to improve their product. Situations like these make people not want to buy their products. Pay attention, Apple!

    This works best

I have a bunch of other power adapters, they have generally all failed, and all my electronics run on filtered power. This adapter has been my mainstay. For those of you who think that the unit is too big, try a power strip, fits behind my desk easily. I also have one at work, which fits under my desk nicely. Charges fast, this is the best I've ever found. I also use this to power USB hubs and my Raspberry Pi. I have about 4 of these now.

The adapter that came with my iPad disappeared and I was not going to keep charging it on the wall charger for my phone or on my mac. I broke down and purchased it and I am glad I did. I charge all my device with it cuts down on the charge time.

New power adapter for my iPad Air overheats to the point of not working and too hot too hold. Cool it down, it works again and returns to a hot stage resulting in failure. Apple USB cords now also have shorter lives. Returning to the nearest Apple store which is 60 miles away is costly and terribly inconvenient.

I am so glad to see others with this problem. My 12 volt charger is fairly new, came with my ipad or iphone, and it overheats to a scary degree when I charge with it. At the point where I no longer charge with it leaving it at home or overnight while sleeping. Seems like a fire hazard and lawsuit or class action suit waiting to happen. So surprised apple is not replacing them gratis. I remember when they sent us all new (5?) volt chargers for ipods, iphones a few years ago. I do not expect this poor quality from apple.

Failure of charger in less than six months

This charger overheated and failed to work. The overheat was serious and probably would have resulted in a meltdown or fire. I do not recommend the product.

Fast charge, but no cable included!

It charges fast after I finally got a cable to charge my phone. The previous chargers I had bought from apple came with cables. I would recommend this over the smaller chargers if you need a quick charge. I can get nearly a full charge on my phone in an hour with this.

    over heating from first use

I plugged in the charger for the first time since I got my ipad and the charger caused my adapter to spark and then it overheated. Afraid something worse may happen. Apple should improve their equipment especially since we spend so much on products. Love my ipad, hate the charger.

    I love the speed...

The power adapter that comes with the iPad Mini just takes way to long to charge my iPad. On top of that it didn't seem to top off my battery properly. The rep at Apple suggested this adapter and I couldn't be happier. NO EXAGGERATION! My iPad charges at least 50% faster. I drained the battery completely and then recharged. In about 15-20 minuted my iPad was back to 50%. I will note that I leave the iPad powered off during this time. Obviously Apple makes it money by selling the weaker adapter with the iPad and have customers by the better one separately. They're not a billion company by luck or chance. None the less. If you want to charge your Apple products in half the time buy this adapter and just leave the other as a spare. Highly recommend!
