Stopped gripping and dropped iPad, leaving big dent

Initially quality seemed fine, but very quickly case stopped holding iPad in place, meaning when holding the iPad above me it falls out. Most of the time I remember to grip the iPad and not the case in these circumstances, but it's easy to forget and recently resulted in a large dent from iPad falling out of case. Very poor quality, especially for the price, often I would be safer using no case. When it used to work was a very good product, but would strongly advise not to pay this much for something that loses its most basic function after a few months. Expected much more from the official Apple product.

    Beware of the drop!

A beautiful case at the beginning, but after a while (despite care and leather feed) the case warps.

As a result my cherished iPad mini 3 has dropped from the case and hit the floor! Thankfully, on both occasions it was a carpeted floor.

I certainly would not have expected this from an Apple endorsed case. Needless to say, my iPad is now safely housed in a more robust and reliable case.

I would not and could not recommend this case.

An impressive case, but comes at a price.

I have this case in brown, for a Mini 3.

PROS: beautifully executed, perfect fit, adds no perceived bulk or weight, greatly improves grip, protects all surfaces against scratches, very Apple.

CONS: Provides very little impact protection, pricey (very Apple)

This Smart Case replaced a third-party heavy duty case I deemed unnecessary. At first, the cover didn't turn my M3 on or off. Checking Settings showed the Lock/Unlock switch ON. I turned the switch off then on again, and the cover worked perfectly.

The leather is thin and stiff, with a soft, thin microfiber lining that will keep the iPad pristine. Unfortunately, it will provide almost no impact protection, especially if dropped on a hard surface. But it eliminates the slippery feel of a bare iPad and provides a much more secure grip.

This was a mail-order purchase, sight unseen. Had I looked at one I might have tried something else. While it was beautiful and well made, with all the cutouts perfectly aligned and a perfect fit, it was so thin and light, it felt very overpriced. I got it at a slight discount (discontinued closeout) which paid the sales tax, so that helped. It won't fit the M4 so I can't 'amortize' the cost. I won't be getting a Smart Case for my Air 2.

Now that it's all said and done, I *am* pleased with this Smart Case. It remains to be seen how durable it'll be over time and use.

My worst buy of 2016 so far !

As I write this review on my old iPad 3 my new iPad mini 2 is just sitting idle why ? Because it has this awful excuse for a Smart Cover attached to it.
Where do I start what are Apple thinking, I really find it hard to believe that this case is "genuine leather" it feels really cheep and would easily mark.
Once you manage to shoe horn this thing on your iPad "yes it's really that tight to fit" the power button volume buttons etc become almost impossible to press not to mention the mute switch becomes inaccessible due to the depth of the material, once you open up the redesigned front Smart Cover
You can no longer fold it in two as with the older version to protect the microfibres from debris from your fingers you just have to leave it flap about making the iPad cumbersome to use.

Luxury you got to be joking Apple !

    Excellent product

Simply the best case Apple ever made. Unfortunately they didn't make another one of these for iPad mini 4 and for that I will NEVER buy another apple case the new polyurethane rubbish is exactly that...rubbish and ill fitting.. BOO Apple BOO!!

Perfect Luxury case. Great for office or college use.

I being reading all the different reviews and was really concern if I should buy this case. But I decided to try it anyways. I've had this case for about 2 months and so far I'm very please. As I mention before. This is a luxury case is not a life proof type of case witch is made for heavy duty.
I use my iPad every day at every hour of the day. I really like how slim my iPad feels in this case still. The protection is the best I ever seen in a leather case or other cases. This case was made perfectly for the iPad and protects the edges perfectly. I I'm mostly impressed for the speaker holes made to match the iPad speakers.
The iPad never pops out of the case (the more you take it out the more it will strech the case) and bottoms are still accessible. Like mention in other reviews the leather on the cover hinge will lose its firmnes but it will not lose it more than necessary for the use. It will still get the job done and keep the lid close. When folded for the keyboard stand it works well and is very comfortable, the bounce helps with the fingertips movement. For the movie stand. Is very firm and has a good angle. (It's a movie stand not for use of typing or gaming. Although very firm to light typing like presentations on keynote).
Lastly the microfiber is keeps iPad display clean. To clean the micro fiber you can use lint roller that is not to strong. (Only for use of limited times or it will peal away all of the microfiber eventually). To clean for grim or dirt. You could use a tooth brush and some oxygen base detergent and brush it off (only as last resource).
This iPad Mini Smart Case is great for office use or class room use and no so much for outdoor activities.

    Sleep/Wake doesn't work

I purchased the IPad mini smart case for my new iPad mini 2 and am very disappointed that the sleep/awake does not work. I can see that when I close the cover my iPad does not go to sleep.

    Protects well, but...

I bought this case about 6 months ago. I wanted to wait and do a review until after I've had the case a while.

The case does exactly what a case is suppose to do. It fully protects the iPad. It completely covers the back (which I was worried about scratching) and also protects the screen. The interior of the case has a soft feel that doesn't harm the iPad in any way.

Although the case protects the iPad there were a few things about the smart case that have bothered me. First, the leather is extremely hard to clean. There are tons of smudges, dirt, and grime that I can't seem to get off of the leather exterior. The leather exterior also is somewhat fragile. There are a few spots where the leather has torn on mine. Then again, I'd rather have a broken case than a broken iPad, so it isn't a BIG deal. Finally, the top of the case (the part that opens up) does not lay completely flat on the iPad. When I first received the case I assumed the leather needed to be used a little bit for it to lay down. This was not the case. I've had the case for more the 6 months and the top flap still does not lay flat against the front of the iPad. I don't think this would be a problem if the case was made of the same plastic material as the smart covers (which I also own).

In conclusion, it is a very nice case that protects the iPad well. There are a few cosmetic issues but they do not take away from the protection value of the case. However, if Apple ever offers this case in plastic, I would recommend getting plastic instead of leather.

    Very Nice, but...

I bought this at the same time as a new iPad Mini 3 Retina. It fits very well and looks nice, but I do have a major complaint. I customarily use the iPad in portrait aspect and hold it in my left hand. When the cover is open and folded to the back, it doesn't sit flat. The joints are loose and keep popping up and down making it very awkward to hold the tablet. Unless I can find a way to stabilize the cover, it's just not going to work for me. It has been a $70 lesson.

    Well now...

This isn't the colour I have (apparently the copper/tan was discontinued), but I figure it'll be the most popular and therefore this will be seen by the most people.

This case was real trouble in the beginning. I mean, sure it was a great case: fit snug, felt and looked great, decent protection, etc. But as a stand? It sucked. REALLY badly. Could not *touch* the screen without it falling over... which, of course, made accidental damage more likely. HOWEVER, after a couple of months so the leather could stretch a bit, it actually works great now. I know there will be a few folks telling you forget it, but if you like this thing, give it a fair chance and I think it'll work out really well for you. I for one am thinking just how pristine this little mini will look when I sell it in a few years.

    Great fit and feel

I have an iPad mini 2 and this cover has an impressive fit. The leather also feels great, I should say. As usual, it's a bit pricey (after all, it's Apple), but I still think it's worth it if you care about quality and looks as well as protection. I haven't dropped the iPad yet, but overall I think the cover protects it quite well against scratches, for example.
