    This lasted over 2 years.

The blue colour was beautiful. Helped me put it up listening to radio whilst cooking. Overall satisfied. Apple does make things with care and putting customers first.

Doesn't last as long as the iPad does

Starts looking shabby after a few months. After a couple of years, falls apart completely, magnetic spine tears away and separates from cover.

    Minimalist but useful

This cover's minimalist design is growing on me. I previously had a less expensive case with a similar cover flap but a full plastic back to protect the rear of the iPad Mini from scratches. This cover by comparison:

    (1) Has a design that reveals more of the iPad details, such as the bevel around the glass, which I find myself appreciating more because it reveals more of the thoughtful engineering in the device;

    (2) Provides the same viewing options as my previous case; and

    (3) Lightens the device enough to make it more comfortable for me to read in bed.

What it sacrifices in protection it makes up for with careful design and utility.

    Broke!

Working in the office today and the magnetic strip just ripped off the case as it was stood in the reading position! I have had this case for around 8 months and definitely does not get much wear and tear. genuinely shocked by apple to have a product that does seem to be extremely poor quality. £30 you would expect a lot more.

Neat, but no protection, way, way overpriced.

Very little protection offered by what is a neat but very flimsy cover. I've had mine for some time now and with folding it to make a stand, the polyurethane is now ripping down the edge of the magnet, so won't be long before it has to go in the bin.
As with everything Apple, it is ridiculously priced and if more realistically priced at about £10, I would probably replace it, but at £29 not a chance.

    Don't, Don't, Don't, Don't, Don't - and just in case - DON'T

I suppose every company comes up with a useless product. The Smart Cover seems to be IT for Apple.
Does it sit straight on the iPad - NO
Does it offer any real protection - NO
Save your time - don't get bored reading my review.
Save your money - invest in something that works - the "Smart Cover" is an awful product.

    Where is the Leather version?

Why is there not a leather version of this cover? Not impressed by the flimsy plasticy feel of this one...

Its going back to the store...

Very Disappointing for an Apple Design

Garbage. The magnet is not strong enough to flip the cover completely around when using the iPad. It comes off each time. When used as a stand, the cover frequently folds and falls over. Completely worthless for all advertised functionality.

    Useless

As other reviews states the magnetic strip is not fit for the job of keeping the cover fixed to the iPad
Also, on the larger iPad the cover has an extra "flap" witch increases stability of the folding. It was probably not possible to continue this design for the smaller iPad.
Apple should stop selling this product
Buy the case-model instead, or buy a 3-part cover.

Not fit for purpose ... waste of money

The serious problem with this new version Smart Cover is that, because the new model iPad Minis are much thinner than the older versions, the magnetic strip, which is meant to keep the cover attached to the iPad, is correspondingly narrower ... and therefore has much less magnetic attraction ... and therefore cannot keep the cover attached, as it was designed to do. It is not fit for purpose.

I shall therefore be sending this back to Apple for a refund.

    Great Product

I love this cover. It works well the magnetic strip holds very well and two stand positions work very well. The only downside is that this cover only protects the glass which of course is not the product's fault. I knew very well that it would only protect the screen from scratches and that the back and sides would still be exposed. That has nothing to do with the quality of functionality of the cover. The only thing I can think of that'll take away from it is that the micro fiber lining inside of the case can and will get dirty pretty easily and if you're not careful it can snag pieces of debris and will scratch your screen if left on. Just gotta be careful.

If you really want to use the cover and still protect the back you can purchase a clear, case-like product at target that snaps onto the back of the iPad protecting it from scratches while still allowing the Smart Cover to attach and work normally. If that isn't an option for you or you don't like the look of it then you should take a look at Apple's Smart Case. It's just like the Cover and still wakes/sleeps the iPad but it actually covers the entire device just like any other case. It looks like a great product but it is significantly more expensive than the cover is. It comes down to you though. Personally I would love to get the smart case and I am planning on it soon. To me, paying ~$80 is a small price to pay to protect a $500+ device.

Anyway, if you just need protection for the screen, or if you're like me and appreciate the iPad's thin form and don't want to cover it up or bulk it up, then this is perfect. Just remember, people, this is to protect your screen from scratches and to have a stand. This, like 90% of cases out there, will not prevent your screen from shattering if dropped or hit with sufficient force. If you want a case that will protect from dust, water damage, and protect your screen from drops and such you really need to spend a bit more and get an Otterbox or Lifeproof product. Even those won't be 100% effective though. Just try your best to protect the device.

All In all, its a great product from a great company.

    Very pleased....

It's slim...stays however you want it to...looks great. And very sturdy. I'm sure it's like all other cases, if you take care of it it won't tear or end up raggedy. But I say it's the best choice I've made with an iPad case.

    Two Words "It's Great".

This case is amazing! I love the Sleep And Wake Feature and the movie stand!
PLEASE NOTE:This case does not protect shatters.
It may help IF THE CASE IS CLOSED or if the iPad falls on the back.

    Didn't protect my ipad.

I dropped my ipad mini today with this case on. Case remained closed, but the screen shattered. :-(

    Fits great...

...but unfortunately the quality is absolutely not Apple-like. The seam at the magnetic strip starts to break - so the cover starts looking really scruffy and even becomes more and more wobbly while using it as a stand.

    Dark Grey is not Black!

Just bought this and was very disappointed to get it home and realise that it is in fact Dark Grey. I shall be returning it to the store for a refund.

    Grey not black.

Disappointed that the 'black' mini Smart Cover is actually mid-grey, and not at all black! Otherwise fine.

    Great Case

Colour is very good. Slim looking. really great on my Ipad mini retina. The weak magnetic hinge problem from the previous smart case is fixed. It folds wonderfully and stands beautifully.
