A great accessory for the iPad

This cover does the job. It protects the iPad screen when it is not in use. It turns off the display when the cover is closed. The cover is more of a dark gray than a black ... and it is not leather, but I knew that when I bought it.

I would recommend it to anyone getting an iPad.

    Worthless

I'm actually mad that Apple sells this case because -- unlike the other (also overpriced) so-called smart cases -- it has no protection for the back whatsoever. Yes, it's my fault for not looking carefully at the description but it never even occurred to me that Apple would sell what is essentially only half a case for $39 dollars. Seriously, the box it came in would offer more protection.

    Amazing!

I own an iPad Air 2 and I purchased this cover today at one of my local Apple Stores and I couldn't be happier! The customer service there was amazing and was very generous by letting me try it on my iPad before I purchased it. The cover fits to my iPad perfectly and it wakes up the iPad when I open the cover. I had a different one that I order from amazon and it wouldn't hold my iPad up. Also, the last indent on the cover would hover over the iPad and not stay flat. Overall, I am very happy with this Smart Cover and I would recommend it, but maybe purchase it in stores so you can make sure it fits your iPad.

    Works great, no complaints

I've had my iPad Air since Feb 2014 or 2015... i can't remember. I bought the Black SmartCover at the Apple store shortly after i got the iPad, and i've never had any problems with it. It lays flat, the magnets are strong, and the screen goes to sleep when i close the cover. It is showing some wear on the edges, especially where I use my thumb to open the cover, and along the top by the magnet, the seams are coming unglued a little, but it still works fine. I'm looking at asking for another for christmas this year (to bring a little color to the party).

Not black... medium grey. Doesn't look good!

Color should not be considered "black". I purchased one when the iPad Air came out and it was a deep true black which looked nice. This is not black and should be considered grey. It doesn't look good at all. Purchased a different cover or be happy with grey. Also doesn't fold and stand the iPad as well as previous models. First time I've ever been dissatisfied with an Apple product.

    Not very good at all.

As a cover, this thing works pretty well but that's about it.

If you've previosly owned an older generation iPad and think that this is the same quality as the Smart Cover for those, think again - it's not.

It doesn't feel nearly as sturdy. You can use it to prop up your iPad at a decent typing angle but it wobbles when you type and I would not trust it at all as a "movie stand." I'm pretty sure your iPad would fall over if someone looked at it wrong or there was a draft in the room.

It also only folds one way - so that the mirofiber lining is on the outside so make sure that whatever you're setting your iPad down on is clean or else your liner's going to get dirty fast.

I'm very disappointed and wish I read the reviews here before I went ahead and bought this.

£29 what a complete rip off

Terrible cover as all of its functions do not work correctly, I will be calling bluewater apple tomorrow to see if I can return as I only purchased today. I will keep you updated on the outcome.

    Magnet too weak

I agree with previous reviewers that the smart cover is useless at least as it is sold currently! I bougt one for my iPad mini two years ago and loved it! It has been coming apart now so I bought a new one. For some reason the magnet is too weak to stick to the iPad when it's standing which is the main reason I want the smart cover. In addition, the cover does turn off the iPad randomly when it is folded back. I turned this off in the settings which makes this an utterly UNsmart and expensive cover. I exchanged the cover twice, but the problem remains and looking at the other reviews appears to be a widespread problem. Very disappointing.

    Not black

It's actually dark grey. Although, it does go well with the space grey iPad. Also arrived a day later than stated.

    Stylish, light but flimsy...

I love the ease and quality of apple products, smart covers however do not make the mark. I purchased one for my IPad Mini because I did not like the the added weight of the Logitech keyboard combo - It looks great and is nice and light, but is utterly useless as a stand, which is my primary need. I recommend spending the additional money if you require something sturdy and versatile, if however you just need a cover, this product looks slick and adds little to no bulk.

    smart cover review

well i've been using this case for about 16 months and i do agree with the other reviews that its kinda week and the magnetic strip is starting to peel back and rip its still an alright cover just a little cheap. i get that they wanted to keep it slim fit the for the air 2 but its just a little to poorly made for an apple product!!!! compared to the cover for the iPad air 3 this is a step down..everything is fine except for the magnetic hinge with is kinda the most important part. hopefully apple dose a redesign with the next iPad air release;.

    Looks, Feels and Works Great

I live in Asia and I can tell you that there are so many brands trying to emulate or add some worthless feature to compete with Apple's iPad cover or case better whilst using poor quality materials too. Not going to happen. I love this cover and best of all, I bought a clear semi-hard back cover, which fits Apple's iPad cover perfectly and without the bulk or weight. Only drawback that I see are the color choices. One person summed it up as juvenile and I couldn't agree more. I have a black case so didn't want a black cover. I therefore opted for white knowing full well that it would be a problem with constant cleaning. It does clean up with little effort though. Anyway, it would be nice if Apple came out with a brown color. I just couldn't see myself pulling out a lime green or bright red or yellow cover on a hotel's executive lounge whilst conducting business with a client. Let's get a nice brown color out there Apple!

    Excellent Cover (Technically Charcoal Grey)

The cover works very well; the magnets are very secure. The colour is actually the same charcoal grey from the new iPad Pro and iPad Mini 4 line up. It is a fantastic colour and looks much more refined than the other more juvenile options (I have it on my silver and white iPad Air 2). It would be good to note that this cover is in fact designed for the iPad Air 2 (You can tell the iPad Air smart covers from the iPad Air 2 smart covers from the pictures of the iPad on the packaging).

    Are you kidding me!

What was apple thinking when they designed this cover? Or were they smoking! This is the worse design I have ever seen! It doesn't protect the iPad and the magnetic strip is worthless! I got this as a gift for Christmas along with my new iPad. Unfortunately until I can find a study and safe case I am still using my old iPad! What a shame that Apple has allowed this product to bear it's name! Shame on you!

    Total dissapointment

My boyfriend and I have spent a lot of money on apple products and we are loyal customers. I bought him this cover as a gift for his iPad Air and it has caused no happiness, only trouble. The magnet is not strong enough to hold the iPad and the whole thing keeps on sliding off - it is of especially bad craftsmanship when you specifically see one side of the magnet connector not working at all and the other side kind of holding. Not only was this cover way too expensive for what it is but it is also putting the even more expensive iPad Air in danger of damage. Do not waste your money on this product until Apple's engineers get their act together. I wonder if Apple will even bother getting in touch with me about this issue.

Apple forgot what black looked like. Womp.

Hey, so I guess gray is the new black, because Apple's latest smart cover is not, in fact, black. It is dark gray. Not even a little black. Very gray. Even lighter gray on the inside. I bought the same one a year ago for my iPad Air, and that was black. Good job, Apple. I just bought the same cover for my iPad Air 2, and it's charcoal gray. Boo, Apple. I'm sure this cover is just as 'smart' as the former version, but I just want black. Maybe Apple forgot what the color black looked like? Maybe WE forgot what the color black looked like??

    Fell apart

I bought this cover with my iPad Air and it fell apart in about a year. The magnetic strip is mostly removed from the cover. This one replaced the cover I had for my iPad 3 which had the magnet puncture the rubber and scratch my iPad pretty good. I am fairly disappointed in the quality of these cases.

    It's not black!

I had a Smart Cover for my IPad Air, and even though I thought I wouldn't like it, I loved it! It was light, it was functional, it worked well. And it looked nice. But, after about a year or maybe a bit longer, the magnet started pulling away from the cover, so I had to replace it. I use my IPad a lot, and take it everywhere with me, so I wasn't disappointed about the shorter life span. I reordered the same cover, and in the same color - black. There is no way this is black. It's charcoal gray at best. That's ok...except the inside is fairly light, so I can see it getting dirty quickly. I guess I'm going to have to return it. Has Apple become color blind? Is gray the new black?
