    Decent Cover but Poor Build

My initial observations of this cover were that it worked as advertised, was of quality build, looked great, and worked well with my iPad. After owning it for about 6 months, I still LOVE the cover but I am noticing that it is not as well built as I originally thought. There is a felt-likematerial that protects the screen while it is closed. This material started to come off of the cover at one corner then eventually spread all the way to an adjacent corner. It would have been nice if a stronger adhesive was used, otherwise this is a pretty nice cover.

DO NOT believe the low ratings

The low ratings that state the stand can't support weight, etc. are totally false. That means that they're folding it the wrong way where it would not be secured. If you fold it the correct way, there is no way it could possibly come apart in use. Look at the photos and fold it the correct way. This cover does exactly what's expected of it. It's thin and strong. That's all you need and could ask for. Fit is perfect

    Perfect

I don't understand all the bad reviews..I use the Smart Cover with a heavy duty 'Poetic' hard case, which is very heavy and the cover performs perfectly. The cover is able to support a lot of weight. In fact it amazes me just how strong the magnet really is! I can use the cover in typing mode and in viewing ,upright mode with my heavy case and it works just fine. I love it and won't be with out it. I'm so glad they offer a Smart Cover separately from the silicone case so I can use whatever case I want with the Smart Cover. Good Job Apple!

    Works just fine...

Contrary to many of the other reviews here, I am pleased with this Smart Cover for my 12.9" iPad. I was skeptical because I have an iPad Mini that constantly falls over when I touch it (due to the 3-segment cover and the weaker/smaller magnets), but this one is quite solid. I have only been using it for 15 minutes but have no complaints. Additionally, I was concerned that the right edge might hang over the iPad edge too much (because it was meant to be used with the back case), but it seems to settle in nicely without much of a lip.

    Works Great!!!!

After reading the reviews on this cover, I have to disagree. This cover folds a little bit different than the 9.7 iPad. I firmly believe they are not folding it correctly which would result in a unstable balance. I use this cover everyday at work and it works just fine... I totally recommend it... My only complaint is the color choices... Where is the black, red, blue, etc?

    Smart cover

I bought the smartcover at my local Apple dealer and found quality and fit first rate. I also have an Apple neoprene back cover and the two together make a nice pair. By the way the Smart Cover works as designed.

Works just as described when folded correctly for the IPP 12"

My title says it all. All the negative reviews here claiming the IPP smart cover does not hold up the IPP are all wrong. Their issues stem from the fact that they are folding the smart cover incorrectly. There is only one correct way to make the fold to prop up your IPP. And that is by making sure the felt lining side is face down. In this folded position, the magnets line up just as they were engineered to do. Fold the smart cover the opposite way with the vinyl side down, and you will have the issues the negative reviews point out. Common sense goes a long way.

Once the smart cover is used correctly, the IPP will stand just fine. And quite steadily. I use mine with a BT keyboard on my lap desk and have no fear of my IPP (12") toppling over. My IPP weighs just as much as the negative reviewers IPP and I can confirm and assure you that when the smart cover is folded correctly, there are no weight issues.

There is Nothing new to the apple smart cover other than going from 4 folds to 3 folds. It covers the front of your IPP and protects it from any scratches. This cover is for the minimalist inside you and will not protect your IPP from a fall. I use mine with Ballistic glass and a glossy skin covering the back. The glossy skin adds texture and grip.

    Good but no colour choice.

When I first bought my iPad Pro the first thing I thought about was protecting the huge screen. As I had paid an awful lot of money for it I wanted a genuine apple product to protect it. I had used apple smart covers with all my previous iPads and loved them. I don't really take my iPad out a lot so I didn't need a huge amount of protection and I really baby my devices.
The Smart Cover only has 3 folds and I think it would have been better with 4 folds to make it more sturdy. The iPad Pro is very weighty. . I think this is what lets it down a bit and why people are saying it doesn't hold the weight of the larger device.
I personally haven't had any problems with mine but I know my friends have. I think sometimes you are lucky and get one with decent magnets.
The one thing I was disappointed with was the lack of colours. I mean grey and white. Come on Apple you have given the smaller iPad Pro loads of colour combos.
Though the grey looks good with my black and space grey iPad. The price is in my opinion a bit expensive. We have just forked out nearly £800 and now have to spend over £100 to protect the front and back and even more with the Apple Pencil. That's why I only bought the Smart Cover.
I have tried multiple third party covers and none I've used have been as good as the Apple cover. Drop the price by at least £10 and bring out more colours and I will be very happy.

    Totally Worthless!

I had a previous iPad and Smart Cover, so when I purchased my new iPad Pro, I assumed that Apple would continue it's great tradition of making quality products...that work! I have been TOTALLY dissatisfied with my purchase of this Smart Cover. Since they redesigned the paneling to be three instead of four, the ability to hold the iPad in the upright position was diminished. It also appears that the weight of the iPad Pro is too much for the light-weight magnet that they used. With that, it won't hold the iPad in the sideways position to type, the magnet keeps losing connection and the iPad falls flat. The combination of these issues make the Smart Cover totally worthless to me. I will be searching elsewhere for something that works like the previous versions.

    Different colors

At first I got the white one but it got dirty so fast so I had to clean it every once in a while ... We should get more colors

everyone is right...it is a horrible cover

Just read all of the other reviews - this cover is indeed horrible. Because of the 3-panel design, the cover doesn't have enough flexibility to allow it to stay attached to the back when open and just flops around when you shift it even slightly. They either needed to feature more magnets or more panels, but clearly their design team was not on the ball on this one. even when the cover is closed, there is not enough magnetic power to keep the cover from shifting off of the screen. It really fails in all aspects. Please do not purchase this!

    Terrible Product

Absolutely let down by this product and the price point.

Should be marketed as a simple screen protector for your iPad pro.

    - Magnets aren't strong enough to hold weight of the pro. Falls off easily.
_ the "stands" are a joke. Unusable on all surfaces and rarely retain enough structure to allow any usage of the device. Constantly collapsing on both positions.

    Perfect

I nearly didn't buy this because of the bad reviews - but very pleased I did. It fits perfectly and supports the weight of the iPad pro when folded correctly.

    I Pad Pro front cover

Looks & feels very good, personally haven't had any issues supporting my iPad in either of the two angled positions, works very well, bit too expensive, 4 stars rather than 5 only because of the price !

    Could do better Apple

I love the Smart Cover for the smaller iPad, but this one isn't quite as good. As other reviewers have noted, the magnet isn't strong enough. It works perfectly as a screen cover, but not as a support.

It works reasonably well for me with the iPad in the vertical position, but has a tendency to collapse when used in the flat position, especially if you're using it on your lap and/or for typing.

Note that you need to fold it with the suede side out. If the shiny side is on the outside the magnet is even less effective. That doesn't make a lot of sense, because the suede side covers the screen when closed and should be protected from contamination when folded.

    Apple smart cover

    Useless, magnet too weak.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars

    Surprised by the other reviews

This cover works perfectly! It lines up exactly and stands just fine when folded. Other reviews say that it does not but that would be due to them folding the cover in the wrong way. If you fold shiny side out the magnets do not hold the weight, this is why you are intended to fold with the "fuzzy" side out. In this arrangement it does not come unfolded. Remember, a pencil doesn't write very well when used backwards either.

You will not be sorry for the purchase of this item as long as you know how to utilize it. Yes, more color options would be nice but that is far from the most important thing to worry about.

    Looks nice but not practical.

Cant stand up to the weight of the Pro although it has only three folds and the magnets are not strong enough to keep the cover in place, very unstable but looks nice enough if you are not going to use your ipad.

    Disappointed

Having had the same cover for my standard iPad, was super excited with my new purchase of iPad Pro, (gold)so purchased same cover, this time in white, being a girl I wanted it to look as pretty as the Pro. Very happy with the look.

Unfortunately with the 3 sections, instead of previous 4, this new design is not quite right and I must agree the magnets are just not strong enough as it shifts all over the place when using your Pro in your hand.( such as watching media) it seems okay to use when folded up and typing, but overall it is not a great success.

I have always trusted items purchased from the Apple Store on previous occasions and thought this would be the same, alas, no.
Back to the drawing board for me and on the lookout for a better quality item. A story of style over substance, I am afraid to say. I want it all.

    Absolutely Terrible

Do not purchase this smart cover. It doesn't cover the screen entirely, the magnets are off – forcing the cover to slide up or down the iPad. Furthermore, you cannot stand the iPad without it falling over from a single touch. Extremely disappointed.
