What kind of joke is this?

All cover for my ipad fit perfectly, but this for the "best" iPad in this time fit like i made it homemade from plastic at night without light. Whats wrong? Please fix it and give as "normal" one what will be really for iPad 9.7...

    Doesn't fit and slides around

Clearly designed to only fit properly with the back cover, neither the back cover or Smart Cover look ok without the other, why even sell them on their own?? The need to make a separate smart case and make these accessories actually fit on their own. Not impressed. Wonder if the iPad Air Smart Cover fits better??

    Horrible Design

The edge of the iPad Smart Covers for all three of my previous generation iPads were always flush with the edge of the iPads themselves. The Smart Cover for the 9.7-inch iPad Pro has a lip that hangs over the edge of the iPad. Horrible design. I expect a lot more from Apple. As such, I'm returning both the cover and the iPad Pro. Very disappointing.

    Doesn't fit

I wanted to love this cover, but it doesn't fit the iPad Pro 9.7". Apple says it does, but it laps over the edge making for an ugly appearance. I hope the redesign it in the future.

    Terrible. Apple is slipping.

Unlike previous versions which fit perfectly on the iPad Air and iPad Air 2, this smart cover hangs over the edge of the iPad instead of meeting right along the edge. Evidently this was done on purpose so that it would fit better with the silicon back cover, which I am not interested in using. It also blocks the volume button when open and folded behind the screen. Apple is definitely slipping to ship something with such obvious flaws. I am not looking for an alternative.

designed to fit with the silicone case

This cover fits and works perfectly.... BUT.... that's because it's designed to work with the silicone case. If you don't use the back cover then you will get the over hang other reviews mention. It's costly to buy both but I'm glad I did.

    Cover plus case

I bought this cover to use with the silicone Apple case. Together they fit extremely well. It offers no shock protection. The cover and case are best used for home use on your couch. Extremely overpriced for what it is.

A great addition to my new iPad Pro.

I purchased this Smart Cover to help protect my new iPad Pro and I am very pleased with it. It fits perfectly to my new device and does a great job in protecting the front of the iPad and with the soft inside of it, it all so helps keep the screen clean.

Well designed and a great product.

    Poor

Poorly described product. Clearly designed to work alongside the rear case for a perfect fit. Combined price of both is appalling.
As previous comments, used on its own has an overhang on the opening side, yet the picture on the box indicates a flush edge. I'd avoid this unless you plan on buying both parts of the case.

    Pricey, But Ok Case Option

My review of both the silicone case and smart case for the iPad Pro 9.7 is a mixed bag. I've owned the previous cases offered by Apple, which were a 1-piece set, made of leather. In contrast, this option is a 2 piece set, with no 1 piece set option, and instead of made of the high quality leather, its made of silicone this time, and the combo is $40 MORE than the previous leather option. That's right, its no longer made of leather, but made of silicone, yet $40 more than it previously was. Also, I don't like that it no longer comes in black, so I got Charcoal Gray. The case is also more slippery than the previous leather version, and it is noticeably heavier, despite the iPad Pro 9.7 itself being lighter than previous iPads.

Now for the good. The case is a great form factor, keeping the profile slim, but it feels protective. I'm probably going to keep it, as it does look good, and I haven't really found any other cases that I like. As far as whether or not I recommend it, I can't do that, but I can suggest you check it out in the store BEFORE purchasing to see if the weight, slipperiness, and everything else, makes it worth the high price.

    Great Fit with Silicone Case

I used this cover without the silicone case for a couple days and agree with other reviewers - it fits perfectly with the silicone case but without the case on it's a bit loose and extends a little over the edges of the iPad. Used in combination, it's a perfect fit! Also, the magnets are nice and strong. They hold the case firmly when open or closed. As everyone will agree, it's very annoying when a cover is open and doesn't hold to the back of the iPad. This cover holds firm and flush to the back of the iPad which is great. I was a little nervous when I added the silicone case because I was doubtful the magnets would penetrate the case and hold the cover in place when open. However, Apple must have put metal or magnets into the silicone case too because when open the cover holds to the back of it perfectly! I deducted one star because of the price. Adding the cover and the silicone case is no small investment.

    Strong Magnet, looks great.

The magnets inside the cover and on the side are very strong. This is great because when you peel back the cover to use your iPad, the cover strongly sticks to the back of your iPad (keeping it from just flailing in your hand as previous generations did). The actual magnet used for connection is quite strong. No worry of accidental disconnecting here.

The cover hangs over the edge of the iPad a bit (its actually several millimeters wider than the iPad). This is nice because it makes the cover very easy to grab with your finger so that you can get to using your iPad right away.

Previous smart covers have lasted me ~1 year with daily use (before discoloration or general wear cause me to buy a new one). I think this one will last about the same.

Smart Cover for the IPad Pro 9.7 is significantly better than prior covers

Unlike the earlier reviews, I like this cover. The slight dimensional size difference enables this cover to match exactly with the silicone case for the back of the iPad. Unlike the cover for earlier iPads, this cover doesn't seem to fall off like the prior covers did.

    Not thrilled with width

I, too, am not very happy with the width of the cover being designed for iPad Pros with cases covering their backs. No complaints about materials or workmanship, or the magnetic action, but the width is just wrong.

Jennifer J (another reviewer on this item), pleased to meet you. I have had iPads since the iPad 2 and have never covered the back case with plastic or anything else. It's plenty durable, and a few scratches only remind me how much I use and depend on my iPad-du-jour.

Therefore, I find it disappointing of Apple to offer only a "smart" cover that doesn't fit the bare iPad Pro correctly. Doesn't feel or look smart to me.

    No Case

One reviewer has stated that he doesn't know anyone that doesn't use a case for the iPad. I've had several and have never used a case. I've tried a few, but they all bulk the iPad up so much that I've decided to go without. But then I don't care whether or not the back gets scratched. A cover is another story, because I need the stand. That said, it is a bit annoying that the cover hangs over the iPad a bit as described by others.

Oh well. I've got my stand.

    Bad fit - confirmed!

I will take it back to the store today! For the asking price, the fit is terrible. The cover sticks out to the right side by a few mm. And compared to virually all other Smart Covers I owned for older devices (including the 12.9" iPad Pro) it really does not stand up to the quality.

    Camera an issue

I like the fit of the new smart cover but with the lid flipped around to the back the edge catches on the camera now that the camera is no longer flush with the back panel

    Surprisingly Bad Product

The new iPad Pro is incredible, so I'm shocked that Apple would release a cover that is this poor. First of all, the cover feels cheap and flimsy. It looks good, but that's about it. Also, it doesn't fit the iPad. It is noticably larger than the iPad, and the edges stick out, making it awkward to hold. It seems like they are trying to force people into the silicone case as well (for $70). I'll be returning this cover very soon.

    Works well for me

I've owned a Smart Cover with the iPad2, and was hesitant to buy this after reading the reviews.
    The 3mm overhang hasn't been a problem.
Frankly, I thought it was a design feature as it makes flipping the cover back a bit easier.
    To each his own.

    Very Disappointing

Overall this iPad cover is an odd mixture of strength and flimsiness. It holds up reasonably well when used as a stand, but as a cover it rests and shifts uncomfortably. Worst of all, it hangs over the iPad's right edge far too much creating an awkward lip. I'm returning mine asap.
