    Surprisingly Bad Product

The new iPad Pro is incredible, so I'm shocked that Apple would release a cover that is this poor. First of all, the cover feels cheap and flimsy. It looks good, but that's about it. Also, it doesn't fit the iPad. It is noticably larger than the iPad, and the edges stick out, making it awkward to hold. It seems like they are trying to force people into the silicone case as well (for $70). I'll be returning this cover very soon.

    Works well for me

I've owned a Smart Cover with the iPad2, and was hesitant to buy this after reading the reviews.
    The 3mm overhang hasn't been a problem.
Frankly, I thought it was a design feature as it makes flipping the cover back a bit easier.
    To each his own.

    Very Disappointing

Overall this iPad cover is an odd mixture of strength and flimsiness. It holds up reasonably well when used as a stand, but as a cover it rests and shifts uncomfortably. Worst of all, it hangs over the iPad's right edge far too much creating an awkward lip. I'm returning mine asap.

Fits perfectly with Apple's Silicone Case

As I was reading the other reviews, I had no idea what they were talking about when they mentioned that the Smart Cover "hangs over" the edge of the iPad Pro. I had to pick mine up and look at it to see what they were referring to. It does appear true that when you do not have any kind of case on the back side of the iPad Pro, the Smart Cover does indeed stick out past the edges of the iPad Pro a bit. That said, I don't personally know any iPad owners who don't cover the back side of their iPads. I purchased the pink silicone case alongside a white Smart Cover and when they are used in conjunction, you can clearly see they were meant to go together. The Smart Cover lines up perfectly within the raised "lip" on the front of the case. I could see how the little bit of extra length would get annoying without the Apple case on the back, but together they are beautiful. I really love the new colors (never was a fan of black) and the ability to mix and match from a wide variety of colors is very welcome. It also has very strong magnets and I love the silky smooth finish that adds just enough grip to help prevent drops.

My only complaint is the price. It would have been nice if they had made the combined total comparable to what the old iPad Air Smart Cases were when paired together. They are quite steep as is, but I got my iPad Pro on launch day and wanted to begin using it immediately and could not find any others on the market that met my standards for aesthetics. Overall I'm very pleased with the quality, though I probably would not have purchased it if there was something comparable on the market at launch due to the high price.

    Too big for it's iPad

The new iPad Pro "Smart" Cover is a size too big for the iPad Pro. When closed, it hangs over the side by a good 3mm and the ends by another 1mm or so. It is not subtle or insignificant. And for a company that prides itself on superb fit and finish and the tightest industry tolerances, it is disgraceful. In every way it looks and feels like a cheap, knock-off, cut to the wrong size; which only adds to the insulting price you have to pay. And then, to add further insult to injury, the charcoal grey colour - the closest to black you can get - is a mid-grey, with light grey on the inside, which will maximally highlight every stain and mark.

Do not buy this. I am hoping to return mine for a refund.

Bought the new cover and it hangs over the edge. Very disturbing when you are holding it. Bad build. iPad Air 1 cover fits perfect but the magnets don't work on the back. I hope this wasn't the intent in this build. Craftsmanship at its worse. Bring black back to. It should be the same price as the original Smart Cover.

    Smells like cheap plastic

It had a very strong smell out of the box and the smell transferred to my hand after holding it only a few minutes.

As a "pro" product I am disappointed by the quality. I will give it 2 stars only because the magnets work well with the pro and keep the cover attached when the iPad is opened or closed.

    Doesn't fit!

Same issue as other reviewers on here and on the web. The case simply doesn't fit well and has an overhang. This causes it to slide around and generally makes it seem cheap. Not what I expected from Apple. Will be returning and looking for alternatives. Have one of these for my iPad Air 1 and it fits great. This... Not at all!

    Very poor fit

I have an iPad Air with a smart cover. The fit is great, the cover works well and the edge of cover lines up perfectly with the edger of the iPad. Unfortunately the smart cover for the iPad Pro is not as good a fit. On the right hand side (where you lift the cover) the edge overhangs the iPad by about 3mm (1/8in) with a sharp edge that makes the IPad+cover uncomfortable to hold when the cover is closed. Given that this is an official Apple accessory I am at a loss as how it could be such a terrible fit - 3mm may not sound a lot but it really does stick out and is prone to getting knocked when you pick it up.

    ? ? ? ? ?

Received the iPad Pro with the smart cover. The smart cover overhangs the iPad long edge by 3mm opposite to the hinges, is this because it's made to fit with the silicon case?
When purchasing from the Apple sales person via telephone this wasn't mentioned.
Already having an older iPad with a Apple smart cover thats fits the iPad perfectly with no overhang which is better, plus this cover was made from leather rather than being synthetic so a better fitting smart cover made from superior materials to the smart cover currently being offered.

    Disappointed: fit and compatibility

This case is compatible only with the iPad Pro 9.7. It will not work with previous iPad models due to the magnet placement, which was likely not an accident; new iPad Pro owners must buy a new Smart Cover. Black is no longer an option which is another disappointment.
Also, the case is too large and the sharp case edges hang over the edge of the iPad Pro, which is poor build quality for a piece of plastic which costs $50! Very disappointing.
