The (Hidden) Glyphs Palette

Finding the Character You Want

The Character Palette can display every possible glyph.

Step 1: Choose an option from the View menu to limit the types of characters you’re looking for. For example, choose Roman to only see characters in Western European languages, Japanese to see all Japanese characters, and so on. Or choose All Characters to see all possible characters in the huge Unicode library.

Step 2: Choose a Category in the list along the left side of the palette, such as Punctuation or Currency Symbols.

Step 3: To insert that character into your current application (such as Photoshop), make sure a text cursor is blinking somewhere, then double-click on the character you want on the right side of the Character Palette, or drag and drop the character into position.

Step 4: Note that the Character Palette cannot control the font choice in many applications (including Photoshop), and the character you chose might not be available in the font you wanted. Fortunately, the Character Palette can also show you which fonts offer the character you’re looking for. (See next page)
