Creating Titles in Motion
Titles are a must for any serious film, broadcast, or video project. In the past fifty years, titles have gone from basic treatments to an art form of their own. Motion was designed with titles in mind. It comes with a wide selection of powerful yet easy-to-use tools created specifically for animating text. You can also use virtually any of Motion’s other animation tools and apply them to your titles for professional effects.
Step 1: Launch Motion. Create a new project or open an existing project.
Step 2: Select the Text tool. Click in the Canvas and type your title.
Step 3: Click the Select/Transform tool and select your type object.
Step 4: Use the Dashboard to modify font, size, color, and other type attributes.
Step 5: Make sure your text is positioned within the Safe Zone for titles. Select View>Overlays>Safe Zones and position your titles inside the inner box.
Step 6: Animate your text with a Behavior. Click and hold the Behavior icon in the Toolbar. You can select from any of the Behavior categories for text or from others such as Basic Motion and Simulations.
Step 7: If you like, you can save your own custom Behavior for later use. The easiest way is by modifying an existing Behavior. Save your Behavior by dragging it into the Favorites menu in the Library.
Step 8: Press the space bar to preview your animation.
