Slicing a Region into Equally Sized Smaller Regions

It’s sometimes useful to divide a musical performance into smaller segments. For example, you might split a drum improvisation into two-bar chunks to pinpoint a loopable groove, or carve a continuous guitar performance into four-measure units in order to experiment with muting the track during certain sections of a song.

You could make each cut manually, but there’s a faster way: Just hold the Option key while cutting with the Scissors tool and a cut of the same length will be repeated until the end of the region.

Here we clicked with the Scissors at the downbeat of bar 5, dividing the 16-bar region into four four-bar chunks.

This time, we clicked at the downbeat of bar two, creating 16 one-bar slices.

Many Logic Pro users find this segmenting technique to be a great composition and arranging tool. And it works with MIDI regions too!
