Index Interface

Streamlined interface that’s more accessible and intuitive.

Aperture 2 includes an all-in-one inspector that consolidates the Project, Metadata and Adjustments panes, and lets you switch between them simply by typing W. Another convenience, the simplified Viewer and Browser setup lets you maximise screen real estate for your images.

QuickTour:
Streamlined Interface

See some of the tools that make Aperture so easy to use.

  • Click to enlarge. By consolidating the Projects, Metadata and Adjustments panes into a single, all-in-one Inspector and HUD, Aperture 2 lets you switch among projects, assign keywords and update metadata, and apply image adjustments in one convenient place.
  • Click to enlarge. The powerful targeted image magnifier in Aperture 2 lets you zoom up to 1600% to quickly view image detail without needlessly having to zoom, pan and scroll through images.
  • Click to enlarge. With the built-in iPhoto Browser, you can quickly skim through photos in your iPhoto library directly from Aperture 2.

Quickly locate images in the innovative All Projects view with project skimming (à la iPhoto Events). In fact, you can access your entire iPhoto library, directly within Aperture 2, to import selected events, albums or individual photos using the iPhoto Browser. Choose Show iPhoto Browser from the File menu to reveal the browser.

Index Workflow One

Accelerated performance at every step of the workflow.

Thanks to an optimised database and a streamlined, more responsive user interface, Aperture 2 provides dramatically improved performance throughout your workflow.

Index Workflow Two

The new Quick Preview mode, for example, provides rapid-fire photo browsing, letting you quickly compare, rate and make image selections. You can create custom keyboard shortcuts to speed up your work. Or use the significantly improved search tools to conduct fast, pinpoint searches with extended search logic. Aperture also offers enhanced performance when making processor-intensive adjustments, such as Noise Reduction and Highlight and Shadows.

Index Exporting

And because Aperture preps versions, masters or whole projects for export in the background, you can save valuable time while continuing to sort, compare or modify images.

Index Processing

Enhanced image processing.

Leveraging the next-generation RAW image processing in Mac OS X Leopard, Aperture 2 delivers images of astounding quality, offering superb colour fidelity, increased shadow detail, reduced noise and advanced highlight recovery. Realise the very best results from every image by applying new RAW Fine Tuning controls, adjusting RAW rendering on an image-by-image basis.

QuickTour:
Use adjustment tools to create beautiful images

  • Click to enlarge. Salvage images with blown highlights using the Recovery tool. Taking full advantage of the new RAW processing tools in Mac OS X, it recovers detail without darkening the rest of the image.
  • Click to enlarge. Vibrancy — just one of a variety of new photo enhancement tools in Aperture 2 — lets you add punch to images by adding saturation to less-saturated colours.
  • Click to enlarge. Use the Repair brush to copy texture from a source area and maintain colour and shading in the area you’d like to repair. Radius, Softness and Opacity sliders let you fine tune your repair.

To improve and enhance photographs, use the new Recovery tool to pull back “blown” highlights. With the Vibrancy tool, you can selectively boost saturation without adversely affecting skin tones. Or pick up the soft-edged Retouch brush to quickly and easily remove blemishes, clean up sensor dust, or clone out unwanted elements.

Aperture provides RAW support for the leading digital cameras and camera backs. It also supports DNGs made from the RAW files of most digital cameras.

Index Integration

Unprecedented integration.

Thanks to seamless integration with other Mac software, services and Mac OS X, Aperture 2 saves you time and effort by reaching out to almost every application on your Mac. With a .Mac account, you can take advantage of new support for .Mac Web Gallery to create beautiful online portfolios — even allowing clients, colleagues or friends to download JPEG or RAW originals complete with embedded metadata while you’re in the field.

  • Click to enlarge. Use your .Mac account to publish albums on the web. Simply select the images you’d like to publish and choose Web Gallery from the New pop-up menu in the toolbar.
  • Click to enlarge. Build your own web pages using professionally designed Gallery and Journal templates and flexible design tools. Aperture’s web publishing tools offer complete control over image size, quality and watermarking.
  • Click to enlarge. One-of-a-kind small, medium or large photo books. Eight professional themes get you started. Customise your books with advanced touches, such as full-bleed wraparound dust covers on hardcover formats.

Aperture also lets you sync your Aperture library to an iPod. Or enjoy your photos on a widescreen TV in glorious high definition using Apple TV.

Tight integration with iLife ’08 and iWork ’08 means you can bring your photos to life in exciting ways: creating audio slideshows in iMovie, animated presentations in Keynote, or impressive digital portfolios in iDVD. In iLife, iWork and applications such as Leopard Mail, you’ll find a media or photo browser that lets you browse the projects, albums and Smart Albums in your Aperture library for images you’d like to use.
