An inbox full of great features.
Mail is the simple, powerful way to manage email on your Mac. It’s easy to set up and works with many popular email services like iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, and Microsoft Exchange. Have multiple email accounts? No problem. Add your accounts to Mail and you’ll be able to access all your email from one place. Mail lets you work with all the messages in your inbox when you’re offline, too. Searching is fast and powerful. Attaching files or images is as simple as dragging and dropping them. A new feature called Mail Drop lets you send large attachments — up to 5GB — without worrying about whether they’ll go through. With Markup, you can quickly annotate an attachment you receive and send it back.
Mail looks great, too. It makes full use of your display with a widescreen view featuring a full-height message on the right and an inbox view that shows you snippets of messages on the left. The Conversations view groups message threads together, so it’s easy to keep track of replies.
Mac keeps the conversation going.
Messages on the Mac is more than instant messaging. It comes with iMessage, so you can send unlimited messages to anyone on a Mac or an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Your messages can include photos, videos, documents, audio, and contacts, and you can see when your message has been delivered and when someone’s typing a reply. With end-to-end encryption, your messages stay safe and private. Messages works seamlessly with Yahoo Messenger and AIM, so you can keep up with conversations any way you like. If you have an iPhone, you can send a text message from your Mac to friends, even if they use SMS.2 And all your conversations are available across your devices, so you can start a conversation on your iPhone and pick it up on your Mac.
Make your smile go further.
FaceTime lets you make video calls from your Mac, so you can talk, smile, and laugh with anyone on a Mac or iOS device.3 Catch up, hang out, and stay in touch with just a click. Simply find the person you want to see by typing their name, email address, or phone number to start a FaceTime call. You can even make FaceTime calls from Contacts, Messages, or Spotlight. When someone calls, you'll get a notification that tells you who’s calling and lets you accept, decline, or set a callback reminder. It works even if FaceTime isn’t running, so you never have to worry about making yourself available.

It’s ahead of its time.
Keep track of your busy schedule and share it with others using Calendar. Create separate calendars — one for home, another for school, a third for work, and so on. See all your calendars in a single window or choose to see only the calendars you want. The inspector not only lets you add a location to your event, it also helps you out by suggesting locations as you type, then provides a map and a weather forecast. Calendar also works with iCloud, Yahoo, and Google. And when you use iCloud, every Calendar change you make on your Mac automatically appears on your iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.4 So no dinner dates are missed, no meeting goes unattended, and no anniversary is forgotten.
Great with names. And faces.
Contacts is a flexible and convenient place to store information for everyone you know. It’s easy to import names, numbers, addresses, and photos from other applications like Facebook or LinkedIn. Contacts automatically includes your friends’ and connections’ profile photos and information and keeps them up to date. You can create smart groups for clubs, activities, and business purposes; print address labels and envelopes; and more. iCloud updates your contacts on your iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, and Mac — so when you enter someone’s contact info once, you have it everywhere. If you have an iPhone, you can even dial a number from Contacts and use your Mac as a speakerphone.
When you add, delete, or edit a contact, iCloud updates your iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, and Mac.

If you’re a student hitting the books, you can keep as many open as you like. And when you take notes or highlight passages on your Mac, iCloud pushes them to all your devices automatically. It even remembers which page you’re on, so you can always pick up right where you left off.
A destination unto itself.
Because it’s a native app, you can use every pixel of your display to explore new destinations. Maps also takes full advantage of the graphics power of your Mac. So zooming is incredibly smooth and responsive, and you get gorgeous views such as Flyover, a photo-realistic, interactive 3D experience that lets you soar high above select cities.

Take fun snapshots and make short videos in Photo Booth. You can share what you shoot directly to Facebook and Twitter thanks to the built-in Share button. Use photos as your Messages icons. Assign them to friends and family in Contacts. And add photos to your Photos library. But the real fun starts when you use the effects and backdrops. Snap a photo of yourself at the Eiffel Tower or in outer space. Choose from nine effects that use facial tracking technology so effects look great whether you’re front and center — or left of center. Snap single photos or shoot multiples in a four-photo burst. You can even shoot and trim video clips, complete with effects. And see your Photo Booth photos full screen.

Time Machine works with your Mac and an external hard drive or AirPort Time Capsule (sold separately). Connect the drive and designate it as your Time Machine drive, then start enjoying some peace of mind. Time Machine automatically backs up your entire Mac, including system files, applications, accounts, preferences, music, photos, movies, and documents. But what makes Time Machine different from other backup applications is that it not only keeps a spare copy of every file, it remembers how your system looked on any given day — so you can revisit your Mac as it appeared in the past or retrieve an older version of a document you created. You can also restore your entire system from a Time Machine backup.
Browse by date to see how your system looked at any previous time. And restore your Mac with a click.
