It lets me use an existing power supply with my new MacBook Pro Retina. The converter's magnet attaches to the power supply's old MagSafe connector very effectively. The magnetic connection between the converter and the MacBook isn't as strong. The problem is that the old MagSafe adapter and the converter is now long enough that leverage makes it very easy to disconnect from the MacBook. This is very annoying, especially if you hold the MacBook in your lap while using it.

Great way to extend the life of existing adapters

Small and unobtrusive, works great with the Thunderbolt display. I'd rather be able to swap cords, but this is better than replacing the monitor! As for the other reviewer complaining about having to replace his existing adaptors - that doesn't make sense. His existing adaptors work with his older machines, and with this they now work with his new machine. The only potential problem is if he is planning on a new location with only the new power adaptor... Inconvenient, sure - but hardly forced to buy a bunch of new stuff to replace his existing.

      Very disappointing accessory

There was no option but to use the MagSafe to MagSafe 2 converter (which was included in the package). While I am very pleased with the performance of the computer an the display, the connector is a thoroughly unsatisfactory and not worthy of Apple, especially because it is the only means of connecting two pieces of equipment costing more that £2000. It rarely connects immediately and more often than not I have to spend time making adjustments to the connector before the light comes on. Even then, I cannot rely on the connection being sustained; many a time, I've left my MacBook Pro on charge, only to discover several hours later that it hasn't charged. I purchased a second adaptor, but it is no better. The assistants at the Apple Store are unable to help and simply tell me that I am not the only one who has the difficulty.

Does not immediately work when plugging in

It takes about 3-10 connects/disconnects for this thing to light up. Quite frustrating, almost willing to just buy the MS2 because of the annoyance.

Fix The MagSafe Adapter's Failure To Work

Brilliant! I do not how Mr. G stumbled upon/devined how to achieve such a fix, but it worked! for me, but only sometimes. I believe the better fix has to do with clearing microscopic debris from the connector pins that do not always allow power to be passed through the adapter. At least, when done in combination, that dual process works better for me. Maybe it's the spring-loaded pins! Great product idea, but poorly manufactured, I believe.
