Apple 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter (for MacBook Pro with Retina display)

  • Overview

The 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector so if someone trips over it, the lead disconnects harmlessly and your MacBook Pro stays put safely. It also helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector lights up; an amber light lets you know that your notebook is charging, while a green light tells you that you have full charge. An AC lead is provided with the adapter for maximum lead length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives you an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect travelling companion, the adapter has a clever design that allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with MacBook Pro with Retina display.

      Awful Design, Terrible Job Apple.

Power cord lasted less than 1.5 years before the cord frayed. This needs to be recalled for terrible quality and design. The thing not only heats up like crazy, but the cord literally melted and now the wires are exposed. Nice job apple. Nice job.

I was notorious for destroying the old PC charging cables as they were either accidentally pulled on or even worse if someone tripped over the cable, the entire PC (laptop) came with the cable. This magsafe 2 power adaptor for my Macbook pro Retina, stops this from happening.

      Mag Safe Charger

I Know some of you are not happy with your mag safe staying on, mine seems to stay on well maybe they rectified it since my Macbook Pro Retina is only two weeks I Know some of you are not happy with your mag safe staying on, mine seems to stay on well maybe they rectified it since my Macbook Pro Retina is only two weeks old, but i like the way it comes off with a little force. My last computer Toshiba went flying on the floor when it got knocked off with its cord plugged in and now has a wobble in it's socket was not happy about that luckily i passed it on to a family member. No problem on my side great idea and plenty of magnet attaches to my Macbook Pro with plenty of magnet strength.

      What are Apple playing at?

I never leave my Mac charging overnight any more! We don't have this problem with the cheapest Windows PCs so I cant understand why such a 'premium' product is shipped with such a lousy power adapter that cannot stand up to more than a few months of normal use in office conditions.

      Weak magnet, always detaching!

I understand that Apple was trying to improve on its old charger but I find fault in both versions. The previous model may have had a stronger magnet even. Any abrupt movement will cause this charger to detach. Extremely inconvenient when trying to charge and type on one's lap while sitting on the couch or in bed. Very disappointing!
