  • Overview

    The sleek, compact USB SuperDrive.

Everything you need in an optical drive.

Whether you’re at the office or on the road, you can play and burn both CDs and DVDs with the Apple USB SuperDrive. It’s perfect when you want to watch a DVD, install software, create backup discs and more.

Only slightly bigger than a CD case, the Apple USB SuperDrive slips easily into your travel bag when you hit the road, and takes up little space on your desk or tray table when you’re working.

You’ll never have to worry about lost cables with the Apple USB SuperDrive. It connects to your MacBook Pro with Retina display, MacBook Air, iMac or Mac mini with a single USB cable that’s built into the SuperDrive. There’s no separate power adaptor, and it works whether your Mac is plugged in or running on battery power.

I tried the Amazon Basic DVD drive, but the speed is so slow that I had to return it. The Apple USB SuperDrive doesn't have this problem, though.

      Good idea, but limited.

This is a good idea when it comes to improving the design of the MacBooks, but for the hassle and the cost, you'd think it could be blu-ray capable. Seriously. The retina display has a resolution of 2880 x 1800. I think it's time for 1080p viewability.

Although it still irks me that such a device is even necessary in this day and age. Sure improved portability is a nice feature but taking away the optical disk drive to do so seems silly. Overall no complaints, however.

Not recognized by MacBook Pro anymore

I don't use this very often. Tried to use it today. MacBook Pro (only 3yrs old) won't even recognize it anymore. Received this as a gift when I got the MacBook I don't use this very often. Nothing 'super' about it...

I bought the superdrive as an essential piece of kit to accompany my Macbook pro (2015 model) as it did not have a built-in drive. The main reason I decided to I bought the superdrive as an essential piece of kit to accompany my Macbook pro (2015 model) as it did not have a built-in drive. The main reason I decided to pay the premium, the best part of £80, was the fact it was an Apple product - a brand I was familiar with and so far had not let me down. Unfortunately this drive is very temperamental, sometimes I have to load a CD into the drive multiple times before it works at all. Sometimes it takes 2 hours to import a single CD and even this is not done correctly as only 30 seconds of the CD gets imported. Apple has moved away from built-in drives and my Macbook pro is amazing. However as apple moves away from USB slots ect., and we have to buy these add ons I expect them to at least work. My confidence in the brand and the products has been severely knocked and its hard to to feel cheated out of so much money. I was lured in by the brand and the attractive design but thats all this have to offer, my advice would be to buy a cheaper drive that actually works and spend the rest of the money saved on more CD's!

I think it's about time somebody (preferably Apple) made an external, matching, tray-loading Blu-ray player/writer WITH A THUNDERBOLD CONNECTION !
