The V shape part of the product is where the macbook sits on, and the base that sits on the desk is the rectangular part. Please consult the pictures on the box before using and criticizing. Personally, I love the product, it may not have the ability to change the tilt, but the height adjustments are great, the product is built strong and sturdy, and I love the design ascetics of the product!

I'm not sure what the deal is with a couple of other reviews -- it kind of sounds like they were maybe using the product upside down (?), but it's physically impossible for me to get my MacBook Air to slide, at all, using this stand. It stays put. I don't type on it -- you're not supposed to, according to the product info -- I use it when I come home from the road and want to keep using my MBA with a wireless keyboard and mouse. But my neck isn't bothering me anymore when I spend hours at my MBA, and that's saying a lot. I like that it's adjustable so my husband can fix it to his right height, too (though I'm not so great at sharing my MBA). :>) Totally worth it. Best stand I've seen, happy I bought it!

This product completely resolved this issue, and so now...my headaches are only cause by my co-workers! No fixing that unfortunately. Buy it! Travis

My macbook pro keeps slipping off the base - the rubber around the edges that hold it have worn to a slick surface, creating a slip n slide for my mac. You can't adjust the tilt (only the riser), so of course there is no way of fixing this issue. Shop online for something elsewhere, functionality and design are not one here.

      Excellent

I have had my HiRise for several months now, and it is easily one of the best productivity purchases I've made. There's not much to this stand, but in this cas I have had my HiRise for several months now, and it is easily one of the best productivity purchases I've made. There's not much to this stand, but in this case, less is more. The adjustability works as advertised, and is key to the usefulness of the stand. I have my MBP Retina 15'' exactly level with my 24" Asus ProArt monitor. (Note that the stand is not designed to be adjustable on the fly. You set it to the optimum height and leave it there.) Like the book arc also made by Twelve South, this thing is nice and heavy. It does not slide around on my desk. Unlike some other reviewers, I have had no problems whatsoever with the stand's grip. It holds my MBP very securely. It has never fallen or slid in any direction. A guess about other people's less positive experiences: maybe the stand is less secure with smaller laptops, like the MB Air, but I can't speak from personal experience. The bottom line: for me, with a 15" Retina MBP, this stand, although expensive, has been worth it because it has allowed for a reliable and optimum desk setup, and I trust it to last as long or longer than the computer that sits on it. Tip: if you are using this to replace a book arc, you might find that the book arc will have new life as a holder for your ipad. My ipad 4 fits it well enough to use for reading.

No slippage whatsoever, it is very firmly in place and I have absolutely no worry of it coming off (I don't know how other users mac's were slipping down or if TwelveSouth have changed the product slightly). My advice would be that if you plan to get this stand for use with an external keyboard - go for it, it looks great and can adjust to your perfect height! However if you plan to type on the mac while it is on the stand, go elsewhere.
