Product Information

  • Overview

The Belkin WeMo Light Switch lets you use your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad* to turn room lights on and off no matter where you are. All you need is Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G connectivity for your iOS device.

    Easy installation

You can quickly replace your standard wall switch with the WeMo Light Switch. It's Wi-Fi enabled, so it can connect to your home wireless network. Then you're free to turn the lights off in the kitchen from the other side of the house or from across town.

    Keep track of lighting

Not sure if you forgot to turn the lights off when you left the house? The WeMo app lets you see whether they're on or not, giving you complete control. So you'll never waste energy or walk into a dark house again.

    Convenient compatibility

The WeMo Light Switch is part of the WeMo family of connected home products that make life easier. Subtle backlighting also makes the switch easy to find at night, and it works with any single- or multi-rocker style wall plate.

They are very straight forward to install and work with the existing double and triple socket faceplates. But it is not recommend for 2 or 3 way light switching. The instructions and online video’s via the Belkin website is easy to follow, as well as using your own common sense. I have been running these switches for about a month via my iPhone 4S, using the WeMo application. I configured it, so that the lighting is automated. This is ideal for the short daylight of winter and long nights of darkness here in Alberta. Excellent product, well done Belkin.

I purchased a total of three, and I've been extremely happy. Read the requirements carefully because there are exceptions, but it I purchased a total of three, and I've been extremely happy. Read the requirements carefully because there are exceptions, but it is exceptionally well designed. You can use it with IFTTT and helpful for those time when you're away from your home (light switches). You can have it set up to a plug too, that is how its set up for my lamp in my living room.

    DIY install, fairly straight forward!

Setting up both switches with the app was a little tricky. The first switch set up without a problem but the other required a restart of my phone and wireless network. Even then, the 2nd Wemo network didn't immediately show up. Eventually, after a few tries, I got it working.

Ironically, the hardest part about the installation was the fact that one of my bulbs had blown (I think I have a short). Therefore, I mistakenly thought that the switch was not working for quite some time. :)

I love this product and may buy a third!

Don't get me wrong, Belkin is a stellar company and tends to lead the market with innovative new products. Belkin, however, falls short in execution of their devices.

The major concept is down but many variables not tended to. The app for this product often disconnects or cannot find the Insight Switch or the Light Switch. This was also apparent and foreshadowed in the setup process that had to be redone a couple times to pair the product.

The lights will randomly turn on and I'll come home to data logs listing 10 hours + use, which makes me think not having the Belkin products would actually be more efficient. I don't need metrics from the app to tell me using the wemo products doesn't make sense.

Firmware updates are released here and there but ultimately haven't done much for the overall experience. The app definitely needs an overhaul, it's so archaic and many of its options are useless. Unreliability just screams out.

I love this product when it works but I find myself more often frustrated with the switches randomly turning on and off intermittently, the app not connecting with the switches, have to restore to factory settings, the switches turning on when I'm away and remote access not working to turn the switches off. In the timeframe I've had this product it's disappointing that almost over a year, there has been no improvement. It's clear from the support page to how the app handled to actually reaching customer support, that there is an apparent theme of neglect to these products. I would recommend seeking a better executed product from a different brand. Even existing ratings for these products seem fake and produced.

Those complaining that you ca I installed this unit in my main entrance hallway to control the external lights. It was easy to do. Those complaining that you cannot remotely control this unit do not know what they are talking about. It is false statement. I am at work and I just tested the WeMo app and I can control my various Belkin WeMo units. Another time, I was in another city and turned off my bedroom lights using cellular service and it worked. Another reviewer complained that his unit lost access to his WiFi about a dozen times in one night. I have never experienced this. The manual clearly states that you cannot use metal face plates because it will interfere with the WiFi reception. I think this is the person's problem. Read the manual people. Great device and I can do everything as advertised.

Unfortunately, Belkin's execution leaves you wanting, and their customer support is unable to provide any meaningful help, despite the positive tone in the emails, and blurbs of technical information they send. The Lightbulbs are OK, and function well, with a satisfying, if not warm, light when the app works. WEMO app is dreadful. It is clunky, has only basic features for scheduling or programing, spotty in its ability to quickly respond, and defunct at times as it looses, for no reason, the programs/schedules you have created, requiring them to be rewritten.
