      Best Wake Up Ever

I'm thrilled wi I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered the Aura but I was having such a hard time falling asleep and waking up, I needed some serious help! I'm thrilled with how it worked out! After having it for a fill week, I can honestly say I don't think I've slept better. And I have the data to prove it. I get lulled to sleep with gentle ocean waves and a setting sun and awoken by soothing music and soft purple light that mimics the sunrise. If you're having sleep issues, or just want to see the data from your night's sleep, this is the unit for you!

It looks beautiful and performs well as a device that helps you fall asleep. It also performs well at recording ambient light and sound levels. But its primary function is advertised as a sleep analyses, and with the current firmware, my use after a month has led me to conclude this product has been rushed to market without care, thought and testing. The bedside unit is controlled using either an app or tap gestures on its top and side. I've rarely been able to get the wake-up sequence to stop in the morning using the gestures, which means going for the app, or -- more likely -- unplugging it. Neither of those interactions is desirable. The unit can take hours (sometimes over 10) to report data from the previous night's analysis to the phone. When you wake up, you want to see the report right away, so this delay is disappointing. Furthermore, the data it records is not accurate: It'll indicate you slept through the night, even though you got up once or twice. I've had it indicate that I was in bed longer than I was, or that I took a nap when I didn't. The app is okay but not excellent; I expect more. You can nap, but only if the nap is 20 minutes, because it's hardcoded and justified as being what researchers discovered you need. You may decide you want more or less. The alarm can go off any of the 7 days of the week, but only at the same time. If you try to scroll the data to get a value at a specific data point (as is the case for the graphs for other devices of theirs which also utilize the same app), it moves you back to an earlier or later date instead of telling you the data point. There is no easy way to correlate the light/sound/sleep graphs other than by eye. The LCD display on the front of the bedside device might flash "OFF" if you tapped the side of the device three times when you meant to swipe it three times. Since it's an alarm, I thought the "OFF" meant the alarm was off, but it actually meant the sensor was not being recorded. Updating the display to give more feedback like "Sensor OFF" would have made the device more usable, and those are the kind of details that have been overlooked. I don't recommend buying at this time.

I give it 4 stars because the unit with the sound and light does not have a 5GHz antenna in it. The 2.4GHz bands are so congested in my area that it is unusable, so I had to plug it in closer to the router during the initial system update because the file package was too big to download with such an unstable connection. Would recommend this purchase.
