      Don't buy this

I bought mine this past June. It worked fine until a few days ago. I had all my movies, entire life's photo collection, my entire iTunes collection and all of I bought mine this past June. It worked fine until a few days ago. I had all my movies, entire life's photo collection, my entire iTunes collection and all of my important documents on it, including the sound files for the music software program Sibelius. I opened Sibelius the other day and that crashed over and over and then I couldn't open up my Final Cut Pro. When I went to eject the disc, the icon wouldn't disappear. Then the computer crashed. I unplugged the Seagate device, then restarted. Plugged it in, no icon. I thought it might be the wire but after switching it with a La Cie external drive I had, I realized no, it wasn't the wire. What was awful was that when I pulled on the wire to change them, the device almost came apart at the seam. I've never dropped it and treat it with kid gloves. It shows up on disc repair but prompting it to mount fails. The Apple tech team couldn't help me; it would void the warranty. They told me to call Seagate which I did, and they said I'd have to send it to them in the States (I'm in Halifax NS Canada) and it would be a minimum charge of $450 to try to retrieve all of my data, with no guarantees. I am devastated. I will never buy another piece of equipment from this company. 0/5 for me

      Poor quality hard drive

I used this as a backup for my photography, after 5 months it started freezing my computer and eventually failed completely. It crashed my Macbook Pro twice and I used this as a backup for my photography, after 5 months it started freezing my computer and eventually failed completely. It crashed my Macbook Pro twice and actually crashed the tech company's computer, too. Lost everything on it. Don't invest in this hard drive.

Excellent product at a great price.

I'm not sure what these other reviewers are talking about. I have two of these (purchased for less on Amazon, by the way) and they work just fine. I have one I use to back up documents, photos, etc. from my computer, and another one to back up by back up. One travels with me and the other stays home. Easy to use.

      Evil Backup Drive

I usually go to Apple Store for suggestions in buying accessories for my Apple products and have always been very happy until.., the recommendation for this was I usually go to Apple Store for suggestions in buying accessories for my Apple products and have always been very happy until.., the recommendation for this was a disaster. Apple replaced it so no issues with them. This drive is a demon! It actually needs to be formatted to work with Apple products. The Seagate website is a world of circles and terrible communication. Their instructions were hard to understand and just created the same vicious cycle. I don't recommend this product for anyone who isn't techno savvy, also owns a PC, and needs bells and whistles from their drive. I never could get the apps that are required to download to open and forget trying to get the device to communicate with my iPhone. I've had knowledge issues with products in the past but the websites were very helpful and the issues were overcome. Don't expect this to happen with Seagate. If looking for a simple plug and work device stay with G-Tech. I don't recommend Seagate at all. If you're considering a Seagate device I highly recommend buying from Apple because when Seagate lets you down, and it will, Apple will stand behind the product for 14 days. They will replace it with what will work for you. Seagate has aNO return policy. Save your time and sanity and stay away from this product. It's the worst thing in the technology world I've ever experienced. One star rating is generous to say the least.
