My only complaint with the system is I live in an apartment complex on the third floor and sometimes, most of the time, my geofencing doesn't work which mean my lights don't turn on when arriving home. Well with a hand full of groceries and the nearest switch in the kitchen this can be a nuisance. With the tap I place it right inside my front door and when I get home I choose my scene and bam lights are one. I also like using the giant button to turn the lights off at night and when I leave, instead of having to get my phone out. I can't wait to see what Philips does with Homekit in iOS 8 but if you're debating on buying the tap I would say go ahead and do it! Totally worth it and works as expected..... Oh and no AA batteries required!!!!

  • Perfect Hue light switch

If you have the Hue system this light switch is a must have. It can be mounted anywhere or carried around, can be set for 3 scenes If you have the Hue system this light switch is a must have. It can be mounted anywhere or carried around, can be set for 3 scenes in addition to powering all the lights off, and it requires zero batteries to operate. That's right, it runs on the energy it gets from you pushing the button. I put mine in a hallway and set it for an all lights on scene, a night time scene, and a movies scene. I have 6 bulbs split in 2 rooms and I love using the Tap to control them all. I like that I can reprogram it if I change my mind without having to rewire my apartment. By the way the mounting is easy, it has 2 stickies on the back, just peel them off and stick it to the wall. I'm writing this review after using it for a little while, I'll update this if things change but right now it has earned 5 stars from me.

It's a really nice looking and easy to use tool which uses no battery! If you aren't using the Hue lighting yet, don't forget to purchase this with your first Hue bulbs! Just much easier to control the system when coming home or going to bed!

  • Some difficulties....

The other wouldn't connect. I'd hold the button down for 10 seconds or more, nothing. Finally I read somewhere that whatever internal capacitor or battery in the thing probably lost charge, so I pressed the big button over and over for a minute. THEN that one would configure.

However, it's problematic. Too often when pressing buttons 2, 3, or 4 it registers as a button 1 press -- which is quite annoying. I have button 1 configured to be a panic button (easiest to press) which turns all the lights on in the house. So it's aggravating to all of a sudden have the lights all turn on when you are trying to do a button that only affects the lights in the room the tap is supposed to be in.

For those out there that were not able to setup properly the tap (hue app not recognizing the tap), try to change Zigbee Channel. For those out there that were not able to setup properly the tap (hue app not recognizing the tap), try to change Zigbee Channel. I did it and it worked fine for me. Now the tap is working as it suppose to.

  • Worst excuse for legitimate hardware I have every encountered.

This is the first review I have ever been moved to write. This product is the worst piece of hardware I have ever encountered in This is the first review I have ever been moved to write. This product is the worst piece of hardware I have ever encountered in my life as a professional engineer. The concept is fine but the execution is less than half baked, and I'm appalled that they can get away with charging people for it. When the first version of the UP by Jawbone turned out to be useless that company had the good sense to refund everyone's money and were too embarrassed to even ask for them to return the useless product. This product is the same. It works at best 1/4 of the time. If you spend a minute or two wrestling with it you might get it to work 1/2 of the time, but in less time than that you could have gotten your phone out or went and found the actual light switch. Needless to say, I recommend to avoid.
