It must be connected directly to the computer. That leaves one other USB port which is taken up by the Belkin Hub. I am using the hub to connect a Fitbit dongle and a Seagate Plus external drive (Time Machine). Each of these phases in and out of connectivity and requires to be unplugged and reinserted into the hub every couple of days.

Annoyed with the sometimes working of the unpowered hub, I bought this Belkin powered USB 3 hub. I have had no complaints. Everything I have plugged into it works, M-Audio audio USB interface, Flash drives, iLok fob, iPod, iPhone, USB 3 hard drives. I saw a complaint about printers, but I have a wireless wifi connected printer so that any computer in my house (there are three and four active ones at any one time) can print from wherever they are through Airport. Thus, I can't add anything to the discussion about cabled printers and this hub.

Doesn't work with printers, may not provide USB 3 speed

After buying a new printer and USB cable because my old one (Canon inkjet) wouldn't connect to my new iMac I finally isolated the issue to this hub. Also, Syste After buying a new printer and USB cable because my old one (Canon inkjet) wouldn't connect to my new iMac I finally isolated the issue to this hub. Also, System Information report shows it as USB 2, not USB 3. It did not work with either a new HP OfficeJet 6830 or older Canon MX922 printer. The search begins for a USB 3 hub that works using the computer's USB ports...
