      Flicker, sporadic issues...

      Major issues... First, when I plugged it into my brand new 2008 Macbook Pro I got a message saying that the USB device drew too much power! I did manage to m Major issues... First, when I plugged it into my brand new 2008 Macbook Pro I got a message saying that the USB device drew too much power! I did manage to make it work by plugging it into my monitor's USB hub, but wow... Secondly, there is a slight flicker. You can see it clearly with certain kinds of backgrounds and fill patterns. It almost looks like the kind of noise you get with analog, except it's DVI. It's not a severe problem, but *any* flicker with DVI is ridiculous. Finally, sometimes it just fails. The screen will go all weird, and you have to reset it. Again, it looks like an analog failure mode except it's not... I'm going to wait a bit and then trying exchanging my adaptor at the Apple store. Maybe there are issues with the first-run units. Apple really botched this one. Dongles are bad enough, but overpriced broken ones... come on guys...

      Flaky performance

      I had to plug and unplug my monitor several times before it worked and even now the monitor won't wake up from sleep! Sometimes when it does come up it flickers I had to plug and unplug my monitor several times before it worked and even now the monitor won't wake up from sleep! Sometimes when it does come up it flickers and has jaggies. I have to unplug the DVI and plug it back in to get it to stop. I never had any issues at all with this monitor on my old MBP. The size of this thing it HUGE, I can't believe they couldn't make it smaller. Literally about 3x4 inches! Feels like they released a poor product AND they did it LATE!

      Doesn't Work with Gateway 30" Extreme Monitor

      Plug this new cable into my new macbook pro and 30" Gateway monitor and monitor is not seeing apple cable as a dual dvi cable. Waste of money.

      The worst product I've ever bought

      This is the worst product I've ever bought. It works fine for a while until the screen goes black and I have to unplug and replug the cables to fix the problem. I have invest my hard earned dollars in keeping my mac 30 inch cinema display which is still running strong. The adapter is billed as being compatible with a number of Mac computers. I recently purchased a refurbished Mac Mini from Apple, and was planning to use this Apple “Mini Display to Dual-Link DVI Adapter” to work with my Apple Cinema Display. Right out of the box the adapter was a problem. The Cinema Display would just remain black upon starting up my Mini. After much cable, USB plugging & unplugging, and running around, the monitor finally starts up. The first start up was a bunch of strange vertical bands, weird and has never happened before when connected to my old first gen Mac Pro 1.1. Then after several more of forced restarts, my Cinema Display finally starts working. The next big headache is after being shut down for several or more hours, the problem of a black screen with start-up begins anew. The small light on the Cinema Display does light up, but there’s nothing but black on the screen. I’ve phoned into for Apple support, they are indifferent. I’ve been buying Apple since 1992, and this adapter is the worst thing I’ve dealt with from them. So beware, risking your own money. For those that are stuck with this thing, I’ve checked my firmware(version 1.03). After days of testing, and research I’m thinking it’s the USB plug that is creating the problem.

Finally, Apple updated this cable to firmware 1.03 and all issues immediately disappeared. If you have a older version of the cable go to Apple Support Page HT203352 for more info.
