I have a Canon 7D which has a CF card and I can upload my photos direct from this camera to an ipad I have a Canon 7D which has a CF card and I can upload my photos direct from this camera to an ipad 3 using a apple lightning to usb cable and the usb cable which came with the camera has worked fine for me

Yes, you can but you would need an encoder, a companion app and a WiFi connection. Plus there would Yes, you can but you would need an encoder, a companion app and a WiFi connection. Plus there would be a slight signal delay. There are hot shoe connectors available but are best with nothing larger than an iPad mini. Frankly, if you are serious about an external monitor, either use the HDMI out and a cheap flat panel TV on a stand or buy a proper 5" or 7" camera-mounted monitor.
