Apple 45W MagSafe Power Adapter for MacBook Air

  • Overview

The 45-Watt MagSafe Power Adapter for MacBook Air features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Redesigned specifically for MacBook Air, the adapter is the perfect traveling companion. It has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible only with MacBook Air with MagSafe Power Port.

Works Fine - BUT PRICE IS RIDICULOUS

Also, the power ada I've got a MacBook Air 13" (2011) that I feel is the finest travel computer for a businessman ever invented. I love this little workhorse. Also, the power adapter on mine works just fine ... no problems. Instead of unplugging every time I hit the road, I thought it would be a good idea to buy a spare for my computer bag. Wrong! $79.95? Is this someone's idea of a joke? Eighty bucks for a power adapter? Sure the cell phone manufacturers have run this scam for years, refusing to standardize on a plug configurations/power ratings so that the buyer is forced to buy yet another power adapter (I've got about twenty of them sitting in a drawer). But those pieces of junk are only $20 or $30. $80? For what? I've got AppleCare, so I'll just keep on plugging in and unplugging the one adapter I have until it dies, then you can replace it for free. Really, you folks at Apple build the coolest stuff on earth, but you do need to re-think your policy of over-charging for the small stuff.

It is under warranty, but they will not pay me for the half-day I will spend going to the Apple store to get something that should last longer than the computer!

I was very careful to not let the cord pinch and never wrapped it too tightly, just like the instructions say on the Apple website. Now with my third one, which I received about a year ago right before my extended Apple Care expired, it is the same problem. Not only is it frustrating, it's dangerous. I wondered why it wasn't connecting well yesterday and could have easily shocked myself under my desk or my kids at home before seeing the wires sticking out. I wish I knew of a trustworthy alternative. Now I am thinking that I should reinforce whatever replacement I get with electrical tape before it becomes a problem again.

      Shame on you Apple

I would like to meet the person who designed and approved this cord and beat them with it. My MacBook Air (13 inch - Mid 2011) is now on it's 4th cord. The co I would like to meet the person who designed and approved this cord and beat them with it. My MacBook Air (13 inch - Mid 2011) is now on it's 4th cord. The computer lives on my desk and is taken to the office once per week. The rubber on the cord just falls apart and then becomes a serious safety hazard. Another product designed to fail so the customer is continually spending. Absolute joke.
