It lets me use an existing power supply with my new MacBook Pro Retina. The converter's magnet attaches to the power supply's old MagSafe connector very effectively. The magnetic connection between the converter and the MacBook isn't as strong. The problem is that the old MagSafe adapter and the converter is now long enough that leverage makes it very easy to disconnect from the MacBook. This is very annoying, especially if you hold the MacBook in your lap while using it.

Great way to extend the life of existing adapters

Small and unobtrusive, works great with the Thunderbolt display. I'd rather be able to swap cords, but this is better than replacing the monitor! As for the other reviewer complaining about having to replace his existing adaptors - that doesn't make sense. His existing adaptors work with his older machines, and with this they now work with his new machine. The only potential problem is if he is planning on a new location with only the new power adaptor... Inconvenient, sure - but hardly forced to buy a bunch of new stuff to replace his existing.

      Never got it to work.

I would give it zero stars if I could. I'm using an 85w magsafe purchased less than a year ago, with the adapter that I purchased about 3 weeks ago. I got a n I would give it zero stars if I could. I'm using an 85w magsafe purchased less than a year ago, with the adapter that I purchased about 3 weeks ago. I got a new 15" macbook pro and didn't want to lug my charger from home to work and back every day. Found this, which looked like a perfect solution. Except it's never worked. Not even once. I've spent over an hour trying different things to get it to work, based on advice from message boards and from apple. The real pain is that it was like 10 bucks, and I threw the packaging away when I opened it. It's not worth my time to drive back to the store and spend 30 min-1 hour of my life getting that $10 back. I'm very irritated by this product, and by apple's shameless money-grab antics with new chargers for their laptops and phones.

Fix The MagSafe Adapter's Failure To Work

Matthew G from Princeton on May 8, 2016 wrote that to correct the non-working of a MagSafe Adapter is to attach the Adapter to the computer FIRST and then conne Matthew G from Princeton on May 8, 2016 wrote that to correct the non-working of a MagSafe Adapter is to attach the Adapter to the computer FIRST and then connect the Power Cable to the Adapter. Brilliant! I do not how Mr. G stumbled upon/devined how to achieve such a fix, but it worked! for me, but only sometimes. I believe the better fix has to do with clearing microscopic debris from the connector pins that do not always allow power to be passed through the adapter. At least, when done in combination, that dual process works better for me. Maybe it's the spring-loaded pins! Great product idea, but poorly manufactured, I believe.
