  • Overview

The 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector so if someone should trip over it, the cord disconnects harmlessly and your MacBook Pro stays put safely. It also helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector lights up; an amber light lets you know that your notebook is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives you an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with MacBook Pro with Retina display.

Not sure if this is the right power adapter for your Mac?

See this article for more details about choosing the right one.

Knowing which specific Mac model you have is important. If you are running OS X Lion (10.7) or later go to the “” menu at the top left of your screen, choose “About this Mac” then click the “More Info...” button. Your Mac model and generation will be displayed.

If you are running an earlier version of OS X, you can enter your serial number here to find out which model you have.

      Magnet not Strong Enough

I have had all versions of MagSafe. The Original T, The L, and now MagSafe 2 with my MBP Retina display. I am a fan of the T design but the magnet holding it I have had all versions of MagSafe. The Original T, The L, and now MagSafe 2 with my MBP Retina display. I am a fan of the T design but the magnet holding it in is way to weak. I don't know if it is because its smaller profile, but I can barely touch my laptop without the thing falling out. It is becoming extremely annoying to the point where I might need to walk around with a brand new MBP with its power cord duct taped to it! I believe the magnets are in the systems itself but please Apple come out with a revised adapter with a second set of neodymium magnets in the charging tip to counter act the problem and grab the machine tighter. I'd rather it be bulkier and work properly. I understand the point that is supposed to break away, but not by a feather landing on it! We miss Steve Jobs. I hope this isn't the type of product glitches we will have to get accustomed to now. Apple is supposed to be Apple, This isn't Apple at all.

The tiny magnet I used in nursery school to gather iron filings in the sandbox was stronger. And it unseats so easily that time and time again when I think it's charging it's not. Bad, bad, bad. For shame. And it is so easy to fix.

shocked at all the horrible reviews!

Wow! I can't believe all the hate for this power cord! I have no problem with this cord or the design of the magnet. The only thing I don't like about it is ho Wow! I can't believe all the hate for this power cord! I have no problem with this cord or the design of the magnet. The only thing I don't like about it is how hot it gets when charging. I've had my cord for the 2 years I've had this laptop, and the only reason I needed a new one was because my foster kittens chewed up the rubber and it stopped working. I don't like how expensive it is, but I come to expect that with apple products. This power cord works fine for me. No tearing, no fraying, and when the magnet comes off because I bumped it, I just snap it back on. No biggie.

Works fine, still using the one that came w. my MacBook Pro

After a year of pretty heavy use, it still works fine. Mid-2015 15" MacBook Pro (current gen as of 6/2016)

I am careful to the of point of being OCD with my gadgets, yet I have had three of the Adapters replaced due to burnt out connectors, and even the power board in my Retina, because they eventually burned it out. Now the same thing is happening with my second macbook Pro Retina. It has gotten so bad, I bought the older L connector MagSafe 85w Adapter, and Magsafe to Magsafe 2 Converter. Seems to work better, and if the connects start to burn, I can just replace the $10 converter instead of the whole adapter. I am surprised there is not a class action against apple on the these adapters.
