Apple 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter (for MacBook Pro with Retina display)

  • Overview

The 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector so if someone should trip over it, the cord disconnects harmlessly and your MacBook Pro stays put safely. It also helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector lights up; an amber light lets you know that your notebook is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives you an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with MacBook Pro with Retina display.

Not sure if this is the right power adapter for your Mac?

See this article for more details about choosing the right one.

Knowing which specific Mac model you have is important. If you are running OS X Lion (10.7) or later go to the “” menu at the top left of your screen, choose “About this Mac” then click the “More Info...” button. Your Mac model and generation will be displayed.

If you are running an earlier version of OS X, you can enter your serial number here to find out which model you have.

      Magnet not Strong Enough

I have had all versions of MagSafe. The Original T, The L, and now MagSafe 2 with my MBP Retina display. I am a fan of the T design but the magnet holding it I have had all versions of MagSafe. The Original T, The L, and now MagSafe 2 with my MBP Retina display. I am a fan of the T design but the magnet holding it in is way to weak. I don't know if it is because its smaller profile, but I can barely touch my laptop without the thing falling out. It is becoming extremely annoying to the point where I might need to walk around with a brand new MBP with its power cord duct taped to it! I believe the magnets are in the systems itself but please Apple come out with a revised adapter with a second set of neodymium magnets in the charging tip to counter act the problem and grab the machine tighter. I'd rather it be bulkier and work properly. I understand the point that is supposed to break away, but not by a feather landing on it! We miss Steve Jobs. I hope this isn't the type of product glitches we will have to get accustomed to now. Apple is supposed to be Apple, This isn't Apple at all.

If someone shuts the door the change in air pressure makes it unplug. As the tides shift it will unplug. Forget about working with the computer on your lap. The tiny magnet I used in nursery school to gather iron filings in the sandbox was stronger. And it unseats so easily that time and time again when I think it's charging it's not. Bad, bad, bad. For shame. And it is so easy to fix.

      a dangerously horrible charger

I love Apple, always have, always will because you do so much right but dear Lord you guys need to get on your game with your chargers. While working on my comp I love Apple, always have, always will because you do so much right but dear Lord you guys need to get on your game with your chargers. While working on my computer today I smell something burning, after some investigation I discover it to be the charger to my laptop. Thankfully I caught it before it shorted out my computer or worse caught on fire! Please fix the quality of your chargers or at the very least provide an affordable replacement so people are not having to shell out hundreds of dollars a year simply to charge their devices.

      Garbage!

Magnet is garbage, wires are weak, and plastic coating breaks no matter how careful the user is. I've been a faithful Apple computer and phone person for over 25 years, but quality has plummeted, as has my desire to stick with this company.
