Apple USB SuperDrive

  • Overview

    The sleek, compact USB SuperDrive.

Everything you need in an optical drive.

Whether you’re at the office or on the road, you can play and burn both CDs and DVDs with the Apple USB SuperDrive. It’s perfect when you want to watch a DVD movie, install software, create backup discs, and more.

    Take it anywhere.

Only slightly bigger than a CD case, the Apple USB SuperDrive slips easily into your travel bag when you hit the road and takes up little space on your desk or tray table when you’re working.

    The essence of simplicity.

You’ll never have to worry about lost cables with the Apple USB SuperDrive. It connects to your MacBook Pro with Retina display, MacBook Air, iMac, or Mac mini with a single USB cable that’s built into the SuperDrive. There’s no separate power adapter, and it works whether your Mac is plugged in or running on battery power.

I tried the Amazon Basic DVD drive, but the speed is so slow that I had to return it. The Apple USB SuperDrive doesn't have this problem, though.

      Good idea, but limited.

This is a good idea when it comes to improving the design of the MacBooks, but for the hassle and the cost, you'd think it could be blu-ray capable. Seriously. The retina display has a resolution of 2880 x 1800. I think it's time for 1080p viewability.

Although it still irks me that such a device is even necessary in this day and age. Sure improved portability is a nice feature but taking away the optical disk drive to do so seems silly. Overall no complaints, however.

This product is about convenience and that's what it delivers. If you put a scratched up, DVD, or CD in, don't expect forgiveness from the drive for your lack of care for your discs. If you want to watch while you're in bed, then get a portable DVD player to watch whatever it is you need to watch. I paid $79 for mine when I purchased my Mac.I bought it for the times I am away from home, be it traveling, or whatever. I bought it for the convenience. If it quits working, I'll take it to the Apple Store and take care of the problem. What I WON'T do is gripe and moan in a product review and cry like a spoiled baby. Some of these people writing these reviews wouldn't be happy with ANYTHING other than being UNHAPPY.

Worst Apple Product I've Ever Purchased

A much-inferior, older, and clumsier computer at work had no issue importing any of the CDs that were rejected by this drive. And it's terribly slow, often importing at a rate of 5X (I have a 2015 Macbook Pro, so it's not the computer). This is the worst Apple product I've ever had. They must have outsourced its manufacture cheaply and slapped their logo on it. I returned it.
