Apple USB SuperDrive

  • Overview

    The sleek, compact USB SuperDrive.

Everything you need in an optical drive.

Whether you’re at the office or on the road, you can play and burn both CDs and DVDs with the Apple USB SuperDrive. It’s perfect when you want to watch a DVD movie, install software, create backup discs, and more.

    Take it anywhere.

Only slightly bigger than a CD case, the Apple USB SuperDrive slips easily into your travel bag when you hit the road and takes up little space on your desk or tray table when you’re working.

    The essence of simplicity.

You’ll never have to worry about lost cables with the Apple USB SuperDrive. It connects to your MacBook Pro with Retina display, MacBook Air, iMac, or Mac mini with a single USB cable that’s built into the SuperDrive. There’s no separate power adapter, and it works whether your Mac is plugged in or running on battery power.

I tried the Amazon Basic DVD drive, but the speed is so slow that I had to return it. The Apple USB SuperDrive doesn't have this problem, though.

      Good idea, but limited.

This is a good idea when it comes to improving the design of the MacBooks, but for the hassle and the cost, you'd think it could be blu-ray capable. Seriously. The retina display has a resolution of 2880 x 1800. I think it's time for 1080p viewability.

Although it still irks me that such a device is even necessary in this day and age. Sure improved portability is a nice feature but taking away the optical disk drive to do so seems silly. Overall no complaints, however.

But i did go ahead and purchase this about a week ago, and so far I am very pleased with the performance of this drive. I've burned a CD, reviewed some old CDs I had in my files and installed the 2016 Turbo Tax software. Everything worked well. I will caution you that the User Guide provided doesn't provide much information, but the online prompts given by the drive work well. I would definitely purchase this drive again and recommend ito my friends and family.

I see the bad reviews, and if I had read them before purchasing this item, I may have bought a LiteOn. I have not burned or read a dual-layer disk, but this drive apparently will do that. It does not do LightScribe, which I kind of miss, but my printer will do printable disks, which is even better. So, for me, this drive has worked perfectly well.

Not durable and impossible if a disc gets stuck

We have purchased and feel stuck with this disc drive. Our children have jammed the disc drive 2x and both times the drive broke due to the disc jam. This is We have purchased and feel stuck with this disc drive. Our children have jammed the disc drive 2x and both times the drive broke due to the disc jam. This is something that happens all the time with littles and its amazing how Apple has not problem solved this major flaw. There is no way to forcibly eject a disc, and if the Geniuses end up opening it up to get the discs out, the drive is toast. It only comes with a 12 month warranty so after 1 year your $80 drive is trash.
