  • Overview

The 60W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector so if someone should trip over it, the cord disconnects harmlessly and your MacBook Pro stays put safely. It also helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector lights up; an amber light lets you know that your notebook is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives you an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

Compatible with MacBook Pro with 13-inch Retina display.

Unlike many reviews, I've had no issues with this charger. The magnet is strong, only pulling out when jerked. In fact, if you pull slow, you can actually pull the MBP across a table by the plug. It charges quickly, without getting hot, and the cable looks as new as the day I unpacked it. I used to wrap the cord on the wings, but no longer do so because that's too tight a circle for these tiny wires. Anyway, I would really like to get a second MagSafe 2 for my work office so I don't have to tote back and forth from home. But I'm trying to figure out if we're looking at two different batches here. Was I just one of the lucky few before Apple farmed this charger out to an incompetent contractor? A few bad reviews in the mix of mostly good, you can chalk up to a few folks who don't know how to use the product But this many Apple Heads can't be falling from the same tree. I'm leery of trying for a 2nd winner. If someone wants to start a database, we could compare serial numbers and see if there's a connection between series. The number on mine when you unplug the wall prongs/extension cord is: C043485GPJGF288BV

I actually have a little trouble disconnecting it without getting a good grip on the connector. Only time will tell if I have the cord issues that everyone else talks about, but the biggest factor in the cause of this that I can see is the built in cord management. Those little finger things don't have rounded edges and cause the cord to be kinked in an awkward way, so it puts a lot of stress on it. When I have to take mine somewhere, I do use this method for now, but I wrap it really loosely because of all the complaints I've read. As for price: I'm really not sure what the complaining is about. You spend over a grand on a laptop and are complaining about an $80 power adapter? I don't think it's all that bad compared to the $130 I had to spend to get an extra adapter for my Lenovo. On the other hand, I CAN see the problem with spending it over and over as many have mentioned in their reviews. For now, I give this a good review. I can assure you that if I have issues with it, I'll be back to edit this review.

      What's the problem?

I can't imagine what people are doing with their chargers to have so much trouble. I've had mine for three years of moderate use with no issues at all. Maybe the cords are fraying because the flip out "fingers" for wrapping the cord put too much stress on it. I have always just wrapped the cord around my fingers and put a rubber band around it because that's the way it fits best in my case. I also find the magnet to be strong enough for normal use. The only time it has disconnected is when i have tripped over it, just as it is supposed to do. I have no complaints.

      Terrible quality

The cable just stopped working, very poor quality. Pretty expensive to replace it. In the past, there were no issues with the power adapter..

      Worst ever Magsafe 2

A who was the brilliant designer that came up with the "T" concept? Obviously this was never actually tested. So sad.

      Third time's a charm...

It doesn't matter Headed to the Apple store today to purchase my third charger for my two year old computer. The 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter gets extremely hot. It doesn't matter if it's floating magically in the air, it still gets extremely hot. The cord that connects from the MagSafe to the computer is also fried. My first cord I was a little careless... plugging it in here and there, allowing the cords to fall freely. My second charger I was a lot more cautious with. Allowing it to be plugged into one plug. Sit in one space and lay a certain way, as to not bend, move, or even breathe in fear of splitting the cords. It didn't matter... my cord has split and needs to be replaced. So disappointing when spending nearly $3,000 on a laptop.
