The cable I had with my iPhone 4, I had for 2 years with no problems at all. So I find it very strange that the lighting cord can stop working so easily. Even the cord for my first generation iPod touch which is 6 years old and it still works. Now I have to go buy another cord and spend more money to keep using my phone. I hope the issue gets fixed soon because I don't want to keep buying new lighting cords every 4 months.

      Unreliable, fragile

All three have inexplicably stopped working. Each has gotten a short in the cord where it meets the lightning end though I've been careful to leave them straight, treat them gently (especially since the first failed). With my current cord, I have to hold the lightning end of the cord in a certain direction to get it to work. On top of that, when it happens to short out, it interferes with the electric current, disabling linked ports. i.e. when it shorts out in any of my computers' USB ports, the other ports become inactive as well (disabling my external hard drive and USB mouse); when it is plugged in a charger with multiple outputs, the other outputs become inactive as well. After buying several chargers, three iPods, three iPhones, and an iPad, I had amassed ten of the old 30-pin connectors. All ten work just as well as they did when I brought them home; I took it for granted that I never had an issue with any of them.

      Flimsy

Not up to usual Apple quality standards. Breaks down with normal use.

      Excellent Cable

I'm not sure where all this negative reviews come from but I have 4 apple cables (0.5m in the car, couple of 1 m at home and 2 m close to the bed) and never had I'm not sure where all this negative reviews come from but I have 4 apple cables (0.5m in the car, couple of 1 m at home and 2 m close to the bed) and never had any small issues with any of them. I saw same bad reviews about Apple batteries but they worked for me for about 2 years with now issues. They were the world best. So I'm going to change my behavior now. If I see so many negative reviews this means it's beautiful product and I definitely should buy it...

I AM careful with it, but it still frays out....

I take care of my cable. I don't pull on the cord to disconnect it; when I have to take the cord somewhere I put it in a zipper pouch in my purse. I have now I take care of my cable. I don't pull on the cord to disconnect it; when I have to take the cord somewhere I put it in a zipper pouch in my purse. I have now just worn out my second iPhone 5 cord, having worn out an iPhone 4 cord before that. SURELY there is a way to make these more durable, or your quality control is off because some people have good ones that last and others (at least some of whom ARE careful with their phones) are replacing them all the time. DIscouraged. Love the phone, hate the cord.

      Poor insulation

These charging cables need significantly more durable insulation. I do not use these chargers roughly, yet the insulation frequently breaks as it's poorly made. Apple needs to 1. drastically reduce prices of these units because of the frequency with which I have to buy replacements and/or 2. switch vendors. Whoever manufactures this garbage needs to have their contract with Apple terminated.
