  • Overview

The USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter lets you connect your MacBook with USB-C port to a VGA display, while also connecting a standard USB device and a USB-C charging cable.

The USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter allows you to mirror your MacBook display to your VGA-enabled TV or display in up to 1080p HD. It also outputs video content like movies and captured video. Simply connect the adapter to the USB-C port on your MacBook and then to your TV or projector via a VGA cable (sold separately).

Use the standard USB port to connect devices such as your flash drive or camera or a USB cable for syncing and charging your iPhone, iPad, or iPod. You can also connect a charging cable to the USB-C port to charge your MacBook.

Note: The Apple USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter is not compatible with the G-Tech G-DRIVE mobile USB 3.0 Hard Drive (Apple part number HF4F2VC/A).

Several months later, I see I was correct, but two major gripes remain: 1) charging through the adaptor is very slow. While it seems like power in should be close to power out, less a little lost along the way, in fact my laptop needs a couple hours longer to charge through the adaptor. 2) data rate: I use an external hard drive and have compared running a USB portable hard drive through the simple USB-A/USB-C adaptor and through this multipart adaptor. Using the simple cable, the data throughput rate is very high. Through the multiport adaptor, it is very, very slow. I would use the simpler cable, but the charge on the laptop does not make it through a full backup, since the HD is also drawing some power. All told, I am glad to have the laptop, but am experiencing some of the regret of an early adopter.

      premature failure

Two different USB disk drives plugged into the adapter never show up in Finder, so I cannot back up or save things to a flash drive. This is only a month after I acquired it. Also, the adapter runs hot. Something is wasting a lot of power.

Causes purple haze on some monitors

Using the USB-C VGA multipart adapter with my 12" Macbook and Viewsonic VX2270 causes a purple haze to be shown and adjusting the monitor and macbook display se Using the USB-C VGA multipart adapter with my 12" Macbook and Viewsonic VX2270 causes a purple haze to be shown and adjusting the monitor and macbook display settings doesn't resolve this issue. It would be nice to either have Apple list monitors they have tested with their products or update the graphics driver to display proper external monitor calibration. If you are opting for a multipart adapter buy the HDMI one as long as your monitor supports HDMI which most newer TVs, Monitors and projectors do.

      Works fine.

Ironic, this same product gets 5/5 stars on Amazon yet all the hate on Apple.com. It does what it's supposed to do.

      Useless since last update

Everything has been said already about the price, the aesthetics, the inconvenience, etc. of this product but it just stopped working after the latest firmware Everything has been said already about the price, the aesthetics, the inconvenience, etc. of this product but it just stopped working after the latest firmware update -- unless you're ready to reboot at least once a day: it sure works, for a few hours, and then the LED of your drive lights up, you hear the drive spin (if that kind of drive) but it no longer mounts, until you reboot. C'mon, what is this? Not even worth a single star...
