Almost all macs have an IR receiver. Least since 2005. Unfortunately, the new MacBook does not have an IR receiver. It and the Mac Pro are currently the only ones without support.

  • Click on the Support tab on Apple website and enter this "pairing your apple remote" in the search field. The first entry that pops up in the results should be instructions on how to pair a specific Apple Remote with a computer. It is a outlined step by step process.
