  • In essence, power draw is regulated by the computer. Using an 85w cable on a 60w machine is okay because the computer simply draws what it needs. I saw one post that stated it doesn't go the other way around; that you cannot use a 60w cable on an 85w machine. This is not quite correct. Reality is that you can use the lower wattage cable, but it will charge at a slower rate. You could even use a much lower rated charger (45w?). If you have all your bells and whistles running while you do, you'll notice that you are still losing charge because the cable's rate of charge cannot keep up with the computer's demand. Turn everything off and it will eventually give you your charge, though maybe not completely. In any event, you won't hurt the machine.
