I only have one HDMI input on my TV and my cable box uses it. How can I attach my Apple TV to the TV? Will a 2x1 Splitter work?

No, a 2x1 splitter for HDMI works in the other direction than you'd want. Look for an HDMI switch (cheap), or get a stereo receiver that has a built in HDMI switch (expensive)

  • There is no such thing as a "splitter" for HDMI. Apple TV requires a free HDMI input on your television. If your cable box has component video outputs, get the appropriate cables to connect the cable box to your TV's component video inputs.

You can easily recognize component video; it uses threee RCA ("phono") jacks, color coded red, green and blue. Two additional jacks (red and white) are used to carry the audio.
