What is the difference between the iPhone 4 and the 4S? Don't own iPhone, but thinking of switching. Not under any contract, but must be AT&T.

iPhone 4s has Siri (enhanced voice command, better display resolution, processor is faster. If you're debating whether to get the one.. I highly recommend getting 4s over 4. If money is tight then get 4, it's still not a bad phone but you will be missing out some of the features. If money isn't the problem might as well go for a bit updated phone, 4s.

  • Visually iPhone 4 and 4S are quite hard to distinguish, so 4S is no more "status" phone than 4.
*Inside* 4S, however, there's a twice as fast processor, 8Mpix camera instead of 5Mpix.
4S supports faster HSDPA to 14.4 Mbps (you gotta still find place in the world where it works up to spec though! :) The speed difference is quite important for applications requiring processor speed. Siri the famous iPhone voice assistant works on 4S but not 4. Everything else just works about the same.

Also take a look of what memory you can get. As iPhone 5 went out, iPhones 4 being sold now at moment, feature only 8GB RAM, whereas you can get a 4S with 16GB or 32GB with most operators (or "carriers" in US). Unless you use your phone for only a few things -- like calls and email -- I'd say 8GB is not comfortably enough in such a phone.

  • Not anything significant in the design is different from the 4 to the 4S. However, the iPhone 4S comes with Siri, who is quite helpful, if she is working, that is; most of the time Siri works, but sometimes, as with most voice control projects, she'll get it wrong. Also, the 4S camera has three more megapixels and an extra lens, making for much better photos. Also the 4S can make FaceTime calls over cellular, and has access to HSPA+ "4G" (Not to be mistaken with 4G LTE). So, in conclusion, if you have an extra hundred dollars to drop on a phone, then you'll love the 4S. If not, the 4 is free, making for a great option!

  • The iPhone 4 is the cheaper version. It has a slightly slower processor not as high quality camera less features with iOS 6 no Siri no panorama no 3d maps no voice over directions for maps. The 4S is a million times better go for it or if you really want to go for the 5 it is identical to the 4s except that it has a slightly taller screen a slightly faster processor and better cameras on it as we'll as the lightning connector

  • 4s is faster, has retina display, and better camera. Google specs of each for more detail but thats the crux of it.

  • Dual Core Processor (Everything Loads Much Faster)
    Hspa+ 4g
8 vs 5 megapixel camera (All your photos will look much better)
    Siri
    No Antennagate

When you are already paying a lot of money for cellular service you might as well spend another 100 dollars for a nicer phone
