Will an iphone5 work in America ?
I want to upgrade to an iPhone 5 in December but I am possibly going to America in may for a long period of time with work, I was wondering wether I could change sims in America or get my network to transfer to an American network .

Yes it will work, although ensure your iPhone 5 is UNLOCKED to any network provider. I assume that if you are looking to upgrade that you are on a network contract, if that is the case it is likely your iPhone 5 will be LOCKED to that network only, thus meaning a US sim card will not work in that iPhone 5. Your network will likely automatically change to a US network provider when you travel there (i.e. all UK networks like O2, Vodafone, EE, 3 will change to a US network, likely AT&T, T-Mobile US, Verizon or Sprint). These are the four main networks in the US. You may want to check with your UK network provider that you are permitted to use your phone overseas before travelling.
I strongly suggest you ensure your iPhone 5 is unlocked before you travel and confirm this by testing another network sim in the iPhone 5.
If you decide to purchase a US sim I recommend the AT&T network, it has the most coverage across the US and iPhone 5's are compatible on their 4G network. T-Mobile US is also another good provider there. I would avoid Verizon and Sprint if I were you.

Generally yes, though it ultimately depends on your iPhone 5 model and the network you would use in America.
