Yes BUT-- only in the presence of WiFi. You can send iMessages & FaceTime video communication to other people who have Apple devices (including computers) on which they have activated iMesssge and/or FaceTime. You can download Skype for free from the AppStore & either message or video-call to them. Or, you can buy Skype credit & use it to make voice-over-internet-protocol calls to landline or cellular phones.

  • there is a app on an ipod 5th gen called iMessage. you can text from it but you cannot call. If you download other apps, you might be able to call.

  • YES - you can text on it you would have to have an apple ID and that would give you an imessage account....you can call if you get an app though...The "phone" don't come with the ipod there are a lot of great apps that lets you call people.

  • yes it is possible but they have a app called iMessage but you can only text people with apple devices but you can only do that with wifi which is very stupid if you ask me but you can download a app called magicjack and you can call and text on that like a real phone with your own phone number but idk if you need wifi for it you have to try it yourself they also have a something that you can facetime with but only with people with apple devices that applies for people with iphones too same rule applies for them too but yea i hope my answer was successful and was useful and helped someone.

  • As everyone has said above the answer is yes but WiFi is needed for those actions.

Here are some apps that I have downloaded...
Kik - just a basic texting app
Skype- You can text, call, or video call
Pinger- Pinger is text free but you hvae to earn minutes there are easy ways to do this such as watch a video they present to yougo to a website then close it maybe download something which i never do because i have tried it before and it doesn't exactly seem to connect to pinger and give me the minutes but watching videos is the easiest way to get the minutes. Once you have minutes you can call nayone you like. If they leave a voicemail You can easily save them and they wont get deleted. :)

  • Yes, you can face time, auto face time, and text all but you need wifi. To call some one like you would on a phone you have to go to the app store and find a calling app for you, there are many to choose from but you do have to pay like you would on a phone. I have the iPod touch 5 and I love it I face time and text people all the time.
