Is it possible to buy an iMac (desktop computer) without buying a new monitor?

I currently have an old Hewlett-Packard PC, but I've been thinking about replacing it with an iMac. I already have a new, big, beautiful monitor and I would like to keep using it. Is it possible to use my current monitor with an iMac? (I know it's possible to use it with a Mac mini.) Is it possible to buy a basic iMac computer without having to buy the monitor that comes with it?

The iMac IS a monitor with the computer components built right into it! So, I guess in short the answer to the question would be no. An iMac is essentially a monitor computer. Doesn't need a tower. iMacs are great!

  • Yes, you can use it as a second monitor. You will need the correct adapter but all the standard ones are readily available. It's very easy to set up in the Monitors control panel. When you turn on or off the 2nd monitor, the desktop will change automatically - a nice feature.
