What is the best processor speed/processor type for MacBook Air? Which is the best operating system?

Looking to buy a MacBook Air, and I have no clue what I'm looking for.

  • I think you'd be okay with the standard processor, but if you're willing to spend an extra $150 go with the upgraded one. As for operating system, I'd stay with OS X if I were a novice; But if you're not, you could always triple-boot with OS X, Windows, & Linux. I, myself, would prefer having all three installed, but you can test out all three and see which one suits yourself, as they can be a bit different. But in the long run, I'd stay with OS X, as it is UNIX-based (Linux is UNIX-like, so you might be able to compile some Linux programs under the correct circumstances.) and many apps are ported for Mac OS X and you can install WINE to run some Windows programs.
