will appleworks work on a macbook air?

I couldn't find an answer to this question. If I upgrade my Mac G5 to a Macbook pro or air, will the appleworks be able to work on the new computer? If not, is there a program on the new computer that will at least allow the appleworks documents to open? What should I do to not lose those documents?

No, Appleworks will not work. All OS's past Snow Leopard do not support PowerPC, the engine that runs AppleWorks. And since it's discontinued, you will find no support. Sorry!
