QuickTime 7 Pro - Thatz Whatz UP!

I Love It! For exporting, editing, converting, etc. When it comes to audio / video (for $30 bucks!) you can't beat QuickTime Pro. I use it mainly for exporting audio into different formats. Simply put, it's a great tool to have in the shed.

    Magnificent (On a Mac)

On my new Mac, QT Pro works flawlessly. On my (old) WinTel PC, there was slooow encoding isues, but the Mac version is absolutely perfect.

I have tried many media players throughout my computing career, but QuickTime has always been far and away the most reliable. It may sound cliché, but QuickTime brings out all the best qualities of Apple; dependability, efficiency, & a gorgeous interface. My college campus (Washington University in St. Louis) is very Mac-based, so naturally everything integrates seamlessly with everything else. As a Biomedical Engineer (BME), I require fast computing and rendering in both my computer and it's applications. Whenever I have some down time, that is when QuickTime helps us college students out; Watching movies in full screen, making our own hilarious home videos with iSight, or throwing together slideshows with pictures from the weekend. I highly recommend this program to anyone, from professionals to novices, engineers to English majors. Coming from a poor college student, QuickTime Pro 7 is a $30.00 well spent.

Solved my Problem - But Worth $30?

I bought QT Pro for one reason only - it is (apparently) the only way you can make a video loop on AppleTV (open your movie, do view>loop then save).

it performs that function flawlessly but I'm really not sure I need any of the other features of QT Pro. iMovie is a much better editing solution and I don't need the format conversion abilities - freeware like VisualHub or Handbrake already do a fine job of that for nothing.

Maybe I'm missing some killer feature but for now, 3 stars only.

QuickTime Pro is the essential video tool.

When you buy QuickTime Pro, you get two different and useful tools: First, QuickTime Pro unlocks some CODECs (compression types) in other programs. The biggest, baddest video tools can access most good CODECs already and the free Perian CODEC installer gives you many more. Smaller video and audio tools need QuickTime unlocked to reach their full potential to export. The second thing purchasing QuickTime Pro does is turn the QuickTime Player into a sophisticated editing and export application. It offers basic jump cut (transitionless) editing and simply audio and video layering but it also gives you access to non-destructive layering, positioning, scaling, rotating, and controlling QuickTime compatible movies in a way that almost no other tool does. At $30 QuickTime Pro is the best money you can spend to increase your video capabilities. Read up though, most QuickTime Pro users only scratch the surface of what QuickTime Pro can do.

    Not worth it.

If you are thinking of purchasing QuickTime 7 Pro, make sure you know exactly what comes in it and what you plan on using it for. When it says "capture video" it means from a webcam, and "save video from internet" it means a very limited amount of videos, aka not any video from the web.

This is not what I paid for nor was it what I expected.

    Great for Quick recordings!

Musicians and other artists, QT is terrific for quick recordings to send to project partners. I use it for all the usual stuff, too: file conversion, viewing content etc. But I haven't seen anyone mention the instant audio and video recording capability--for those who have camera and mic built in, especially. Then use Share (under file menu) to process file for email or whatever.

Editing can get a bit technical, beyond simple cut and paste, but even us lay folk can do lots of useful and fun tasks with QuickTime. I appreciate it a lot! As do my bandmates and other musician friends.

    Don't make my mistake :(

Quicktime is great for conversion of file formats. I've been using it to convert video files from my dark, dark days in the Windows wilderness.

Quicktime the product gets 5 stars.

However, I screwed up when I bought the product. Yes, MY error. I inadvertently purchased the Windows version. Wasn't paying attention, can't return it, lost $30.

I took away a star because Apple has created different types of keys for the different Windows and OSX versions of Quicktime. I do not understand why this is necessary. I know it's my error that cost $30, but I don't see why it has to be this way.

The moral is... LOOK BEFORE YOU BUY, don't be like me, lol.

    Quicktime Pro

Without a doubt, this is the best upgrade you can make for the money. Go ahead and pony op the $30.00, you'll thank me later!

Quicktime worked great for a time. Now it is the cause of my computer crashing. I think apple is spending too much time on iphone and not enough to make sure other products work.(yes I have the latest update)
Thumbs down. I want my money back.

    A must-have for Mac users.

Quicktime Pro works perfectly for me. I do a lot of video editing and this is great for converting video files. It works well for viewing even WMV video files. It's the main multimedia tool for the Mac and well worth the price.

Rip off for new mac owner

I have the professional on my PC and I enjoy many of the pro-only features. I recently purchased a new MacBook and was shocked when I found out this 30$ piece of proprietary Apple software was NOT included with my new $1,299 Mac. I love my new MacBook and all that comes with it, but come on Apple, throw me a bone here!

I use QuickTime because it plays movies full screen on the TV from my Mac Mini without stuttering, unlike iTunes which occasionally stutters and causes my 20 month old to scream in that oh so ear piercing pitch that only little children can produce, and that causes my 6 month old to start crying. I cannot believe that a program like QuickTime Pro doesn't have the simple capability to create a playlist. I backed up all my son's DVD's to our Time Capsule so I could play his movies without having to constantly switch the DVD's, but this isn't much of an improvement. I could have stayed with the free version if I knew Pro couldn't create a playlist either.

    Other features

Why are people complaining about $30. For the extra features it is worth it. I make quick videos using camera in the mac to send to others. Have made audio recordings of meetings that are very clear. Good upgrade. Worth it for me.

Definitely useful, but maybe not $30 worth of useful

This upgrade is worth paying for, but I feel it's only worth about half of what they are charging for it. I finally upgraded because I wanted to save playblasts from Maya and this was the easiest way I could find to do so. I also do a bit of light video editing occasionally and basically to record or save anything you have to have Pro. I will definitely use the Pro features, but it feels like at least some of the recording or saving functions should be free.

    Bad Serial Numbers

Some people are writing in saying that after purchasing QuickTime Pro and entering the serial number it doesn't work. It happened to me as well. Call Apple, get a refund, and purchase another serial number. Apparently they don't all work. The product is great though.

    Works Great On My PC

I needed a program to convert my AVI files into MOV files for websites, iPods and Cell phones, and Quicktime was the perfect solution. As a PC user, I was very happy with the results. Thanks Apple!
